|
|
Hi there fellow aircooled fans
I'm busy restoring my 1957 oval window. Trying to get it close to orig as possible
I have chosen the colour "jupitar grey"
I would just like to know what is the original colour of the pan (under carriage) ?
Was it black or painted with red oxide?
Also want to know, what colour was used under the fenders? Was it black with stone chip or was it also painted grey?
Please help

Hi MSD57!
As i can read i suppose you have a standard 57 oval?
if so pan was black, color of body could be jupiter grey or medium blue.
fenders are the same color as the body, bumpers must be silverisch grey.
good advice is to use a anti gravel under your fenders... after all you don't want your paint the first hour you ride back on the ground
best regards |

Hi, noticed your based in South Africa. Is it a SO model? Although being a '57, I can't remember when the SO plant was established. In Any case, the chassis 'might' be painted the same colour as Australian made bugs. My Chassis was originally painted a dark bluey-grey (same colour as the fuel tank) and a lot of the other suspension related components. Strange, as my chassis and engine was imported from Germany, but I'm guessing probably as bare metal, then painted in Aus. Not sure if this was the case with SO models, unless you've got a German model. |

Still needs to be assembled and polished . Will post more pics as the build goes along
Went with black on the pan and under carriage as well. Also painted gravel guard under the fenders but painted black over it so that it looks uniform with the pan when you stand under the car |
