Sweet ride, look´s really nice. |
Thanks. I'm loving it.
Went to the Australian VW nationals today. Scored a carpet kit which I'm very happy with. Wasn't looking for one and was just planning to get upholsterer to do one as postage on carpet kits to Oz is a killer. It is a manual kit but will modify for my Automatic. This is a great cheap quick fix for now.
Also picked up some other goodies Automatic script which I was hoping to find. And found someone that could have some bumper overriders for me.
Loving the shirt and some stickers to go on.
Getting the headliner and new window rubbers done tomorrow. Will post pics when I pick it up later in the week. _________________ My 71 Squareback (Sold!): http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=591450

Nice find with the carpet. It's not so easy getting RHD carpet to Aus for the right price. _________________ Sydney, Australia.

Thanks I agree mate. That's why I was getting an upholsterer to install as it would of worked out the same shipping a kit over. $150 show special and I jumped on it. Needs a few mods but will tie me over until I do a full resto sometime down the track.
Just before work got my car back from upholsterer with my new headlining installed. Happy with it. Now waiting for a day or 2 off to install the door and panel cards. Also modify and install carpet.

Think it might of been a kit that classic Vee-dub get made. Looks as though it's like a marine carpet. I took a pic of all that identifies the kit that was on the plastic. From memory George? said they sell them for $220 normally, contact details are there (I'm sure you know them anyway)
I had a mate drop over with his 72 squareback and took this pic of our rides.

Stripped out my interior today.
Started a new thread with the problem of my different front seats!
Found out that a patch was welded in rear passenger side of floor pan but done well and pans are solid.
Anyway here are some pics.
As you can see the patch in the pan. But done well.
Put the rear panel in to see how it looks, love the shade of red. Will be getting matching seat covers.
A PO had put in fish oil through out the car.

Got some work done today.
First cleaned some interior parts, then sprayed with Satin Black for Vinyl.

I've not been happy with the green wheels the PO painted, plus it was poorly done even by my low standards. I was going to get them powder coated but want to spend money on other items at the moment, so I gave it a go myself. So sanded, primed then sprayed with Maranello Red the spare wheel to see if I like the colour and look of it.
And Yes I do.

Installed my door cards today, was going to wait until seats were in but the rest of my seat covers still haven't arrived. Also painted the back of my rear seat after giving it a wash.
Rear of back seat.
Loosely placed seat in after door card was installed to get an idea of look
All cards now installed. Just seats to be done.
Still to buy at this stage:
New seat belts.
Venetian blinds
Bamboo parcel tray
Coco mats
Hood release cable _________________ My 71 Squareback (Sold!): http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=591450

Loving the progress so far Was wondering, are the seat covers you are using TMI? Just about to sort out ordering and doing mine and was going to ask how you found them to work with? _________________ 1971 Iberian Red UK Type 3 Fastback

Looking bloody good mate. That red interior looks fantastic. A nice red dash from 68notch would finish it off nicely! |

Me too
Yes, they are TMI Red vinyl Basketweave. (Cheapest available) I ordered them thru ISP West.
Found the drivers seat great to work with. Fitted exactly like the original covers I had taken off. Would say prepping seat for cover is important. I watched a YouTube video of fitting seat covers as I hadn't done one previously, recommend watching it.
Any further restorations I do on VWs I would be buying TMI again at this stage- unless they fall apart in the first year or so, or when I do the others tomorrow they don't fit well. I pick up the passenger and rear seat tomorrow from post office. Will put pics up tomorrow night, I hope of complete interior. Had to do separate orders as front seats are from different years in my square. _________________ My 71 Squareback (Sold!): http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=591450

Thanks mate, I'm loving the look of it. Think I would struggle to find one, but agree it would look great. At this stage I'm thinking of getting a dash mat to cover/hide cracks, and thinking either in black carpet or a matching shade of red carpet. _________________ My 71 Squareback (Sold!): http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=591450

I have spoken to him through PM on here. I will be looking to get one from him for sure down the track. Other items on my list I want to do first. Did not know he was doing coloured dashes. Awesome.
I finished covering and installing my rear seat today, also installed the drivers seat. I have recovered the passenger seat and just about to reassemble it. Will install later and take pics to post tomorrow.
