|
|
I am starting a 1914 build; I have a fresh cut dual relief/ full flow case, Steve Tim's stage 1 heads 40x35.5, and 94mm mahle pistons. I am unsure about which cam to go with, I have access to some dual webber 44s but im wondering if they are too big. I am a new builder but will have help. |

Looking at the intake valve at 40mm you might want to go smaller carbs. Otherwise you may have sluggish responsiveness compared to a 40mm Carb. You might be able to get away with smaller venturis to get a little closer. Depends on the application too. Sitting in traffic I would go 40's. Drag car; 44's or even 48' if it's high strung. _________________ -John Cox

I've thought about going stroker, I don't wanna have to drop off case to make clearance. What's the biggest crank I can use in a OG case without needing more room for clearance? |

74mm usually fits without clearance needed. You can put a 76mm in there if you don't mind clearing out ~2mm of material in a few places. I've clearanced for 76mm by hand - it's easy with a small dremel tool. For 78mm and above a machine shop saves a lot of hand work. _________________ 71 Ghia Coupe - stock body - no rust! It costs almost the exact same amount. Good choice. Fk8 with 1.25 rockers, 9:1 compression...done. _________________ 62 vert

I do not know of what crank brand you are using, but in general be really, REALLY careful of stroker crank quality. Seen s few 'name brand' cranks quit well before 20,000 miles in light duty streeters.
This is an advantage of retaining a standard stroke crank - the VW forging is just about formidable
And 44s are a good choice for a 1.9L
Hope this helps |

Now you're talkin'...the 44's will work for sure now and after drivin' a 2276, you'll wonder why you didn't do this before. _________________ Current:74 Ghia Coupe w/ 2276

12.5 or 13lb flywheel?
I have 1.4 rockers, 5.5 H rods, mahle B, and just upgraded my Steve Tim's stage 1 to Stage 2 42x37.5, dual 44s. |

For the street 13 lbs.
My bet, Web 86B and 9,5 CR. The Tims stage2 heads are great.

Would 9.5 CR be possible? I wanted 9:1 for a street car too, I was thinking 1914 but I think 2276 is better now. I want a quick response but I want to use regular pump fuel. I'm guessing 91 for 9:1.
Would 91 still for work 9.5? _________________ one, two, many

I ran 9.6 on my 2276 w/ idas and i was able to run 87. But for the mpg gain and cooler vs cost, its worth running 92.
Awesome step up to Tims stage 2s. Like Alstrup noted, they really are great street heads for price and performance imo. Now you can run an fk10, fk8 or 86b. 10 cr. 13 vs 12.5 # diff is so small. Get which ever one is cheaper. Most important, get everything balanced and do full flow and a deep sump. _________________ 2276 IDA's 86C 11-1 DD !
