I am in the middle (getting there) of a subaru swap, and I'm reached a dilemma of whether or not to retain the 002.
I've read that the 091 is the strongest transmission built and I believe I can get one locally. Also with the swap there is more support and design affiliated with the 091. I am no transmission expert, those that know, would the 002 hold up with a 2.2 subaru?
Thanks

Well I would say the 002 5 rib is the second strongest if that's any help. Go with it and if it grenades then find a 6 rib. _________________ Brett

mild-core has been tearing it up with a 002. aside from what he has told me about running a smaller tire, it's doing just fine. his plan to switch to a 091 was for better gearing.
that said, the 5 rim is suppose to have the tallest of all the baywindow boxes
if you're not dropping the clutch at 10K, it will be fine.
speaking of clutches, i hope you don't plan on using a stock one _________________

Thanks for the correction. I used to be a nice guy, then I ruined it by exposing myself to the public. |

The '75 4.86 R&P is quite strong (same ratio as all later U.S. Syncro vans) .. by far the best of the 002s. _________________ aka Pablo, Geary

If your going through all of the trouble of doing a subaru swap, then you might as well not cheap out on the transmission.
The 091 will get your more strength(reliability) and better cruising rpms for fuel economy. Two reasons you are probably switching to the Subaru in the first place.
No brainer to me |

That is my thought as well Archemitis. I definitely want the gearing and the strength the 091 has, maybe even taller. I was considering changing the gearing in the 002 as well. |
