this is my first time posting here so I hope i am doing this right. I have a 73 beetle that was running fine up till the other day. the car has NO get up can not get the car over 25 mph. it will idle fine but first gear on we have nothing. if i hit the gas pedal it will pep up but drop back off to nothing. it has a 1600 stock with dual carbs and electronic ignition. just reset timing and replaced plugs and wires. if anyone has any ideas please help. i am trying to get this car running as my daily driver. thanks |

Carbs. Empi Dual EPC 34
Pertronix Flame Thrower Coil
Pertronix Flame Thrower Plug Wires
Distributor…. 009E non vacuum advance
Bosch plugs
The timing and the carbs were set by my local VW shop, also had values adjusted. Car ran fine on the drive home from the shop about 65 miles from house. Did not drive the car for about a week later because I had to replace the shift rod bushing and the gas sending unit. |

check gas pressure, check that the electronic module did not fry, check jets in carb for a blockage _________________ My 1975 Beetle Build Updated 8-21-12

Also check to make sure the carb linkage isn't binding and opening up all the way. _________________ '76 BUG 2054cc |

This forum is the perfect place to get help. If you are new to VW's its always nice to have some good books on hand. Some of the guys here have different preferences. I personally like Tom Wilsons book. It's a good place to start and it's a little easier having a book at the engine instead of computer.

just got the time to work on the bug. pulled carbs and fuel filters, gas was brown and had a very bad smell. drained all gas out of tank then cleaned carbs. and replaced filters. put it back together and it is running better than it has in a very long time. found a lot of STUFF floating in the bowls in the carbs. must have got in the jets. thanks everyone for the help. |
