What size of tire/rim can I run? 66 swing-axle, currently with an old set of Cragars, that have seen better days. 295/50/15 on the rear, and 225/65/15(I think) on the front. The tires all need to be replaced and the rims refinished. Or I'm thinking I pick up something used and newer. I have the 5 bolt adapters 5x4.5(114.3). What tire/rim size looks good? 16",17", bigger? what about offsets? I am not too concerned with speedo, as I don't have one yet and am thinking of a universal. (analog to digital-pulse generator?)

Amazing what a little polishing or bead blasting or power coat can do for wheels, and probably at less cost than new wheels....

Had set of 30 year old Unilug mags and had outer section polished and spokes bead blasted and painted... Gave them new "life"...

Tire size is somewhat arbitrary, what fits your visual perception...

If you go electronic speedo you can program it for any tire size up front (at 60 mph on speedo, GPS says 59.9 mpg - stop watch says 60 seconds of 1 mile)... Also there is GPS units to generate pulses for speedos...

Wheel diameter is all down to personal choice and to whatever 'look' you're after. I'm a traditionalist and would never dream of fitting anything more than a 15" wheel but for some, the sky's the limit, unfortunately IMHO...

I like the traditional look, fat and wide on the back, but it's just the cost of the new rubber. As it sounds like with a lot of other people on here, I was just going to do a quick fix and get it back on the road... Now the body is off the wiring harness is ripped out, started pulling the old pans off, and now I'm into a full rebuild, because I just can't bring myself to just slap it together. Needless to say I will be on here looking for all kinds of advice.

As above ^^^ shot blasting and powder coat can work wonders on old wheels, some powder coat's are very close looking to chrome plate these days too.

I am all over 15 inch wheels.

But, I have seen a couple combinations of larger rims that worked. But, they have been the exception. They have to look like they were part of the design, not a add on.

The buggy with the hard top is running 13's and 15's ?

Do you happen to know what size tires.

Any help would be greatly greatly appreciated.

I wish! It belongs to a guy called Robert Wren. It is a legit UK tagged Manx. It was featured in VolksWorld about 12 years ago soon after it was built and looks just as fresh now. One of the coolest things about it is that the pan is from a 1947 car which makes it one of the earliest donor cars I have herd of. Robert didn't butcher a split window, it was already a buggy before he got it and he restored the chassis and re bodied it with a new Manx shell.

I am assuming he is talking about the 47 pan being used.

Could you use all four rims same size and do different size tires?
