Just picked this little gem up the other day and thought I'd share....
It's an original '63. It was a one-titled car. New tires were put on it not too long ago. I got it off the guy who bought it from the original owner just a few weeks back, it came out of a barn in East TN. Been sitting since 1997. Engine not currently running, but I am sure with a little effort and TLC it will be again. Original, complete 40hp, 6v. The interior is very well for holding up for 50 years. With a little cleaning, the headliner is perfect, the seats are near perfect and door panels still intact. This little Gem has a very solid body and the only rot is in the battery floorpan (and running boards). With a little TLC, some brakes, a engine tune up and some fresh petrol, I'm sure she will see pavement on her own again.

Welcome to the 2nd owner L380 Turkis '63 club! I that bubbled decklid and louver damage from a fire? I'm anxious to hear how much of the paint is original- and if it's an early or late '63. _________________

yep engine looks complete, down to the fresh air and heater hoses. A little work and it can be back to its original form. I have an early 63 same color that had not ran since 2003. Some of the stuff is pretty common, like having to go through the entire fuel system ( cleaning the tank, unplugging the lines, replacing rubber, and rebuilding the PICT-28 ). My advice is go slow and be methodical particularly when it comes to cranking up/firing up the engine. If it is the original, and you don't plan on pulling and going through it, there are some things that you can to do prevent further damage due to neglect like taking out all of the spark plugs and squirting some oil in the cylinders and turning it over by hand a bit. I had a stuck cam follower that I would not have discovered had I just poured gas in it and cranked it over. But I pulled the valve covers, oiled the valve train and turned it by hand watching all the while. Found it, delt with it, adjusted the valves a couple of times, and now runs great with 125 compression all around. The 40 hp is pretty resiliant but when anything sits its a bit tricky. I'm sure there are plenty of pictures on here with stuck valves going through the top of the piston or through the head. Good luck and let us know how it is going. |
