I ordered a new accelerator cable, as well as the kit through Wolfsburg. It came with everything, but I don't seem to have the pin that connects the cable to the top of the rod. Anyone know what goes in there? Size, or where to find a replacement? Can't seem to find one on their site.

Or do we just bend the hoop back a little bit so it slides over? I've seen a couple setups in the gallery. Not sure what's best...

It just "hooks" in there, no pin.

I have seen them installed w/o a pin.

I used the pin to install mine; it slides through the L-bracket and cable eye and is held on the other side with a cotter pin. Seems to work fine,

111 721 529A is the part number

WW lists the pin for bug -57; no listing for a bus, not included in the accelerator lever kit either.

I have always been curious if the pin was og used on buses, hopefully someone will chime in that knows.

I've only ever seen the hook thru the bracket. Yes, you have to open it up a bit to make it fit. Not sure why that is, but its simple enough to do.

Yes, you can just open it up and hook it through if you want. Grease the hole in the bracket.

Pages 2 & 3 of this accelerator cable thread show the pin:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=297464
From that thread:

Accelerator cable
Now: Cable eye hooked directly
into the hole in pedal lever.
Formerly: Secure with bolt,
washer and cotter pin.

Also:
Your L-bracket goes on the OUTSIDE of the J-bracket welded to the frame.
See thread above for info.

Definitely a pin.

Lots of info like this in the "Parts Reference Manuals" here:

See links at bottom...

If you're talking about 81, that is for the pivot: not holding the end of the throttle cable, right?

That explains why mine has the pin. Started to wonder after seeing other posts...

Correct! Darn, our 1958APR manual shows a part 73 in the same diagram. Part number 111 721 529 A Bolt - Accelerator cable (front) Qty. 1. Along with a washer and cotter pin.

It looks like you have your "L" shaped piece inside the "J" bracket. Most guys put it outside, on the left side of the J bracket.
