I was in Fresno for work and had a little time to kill so I did some junkyard hunting..I work on railroad equipment so I cruised the BNSF/UP line parallel to Golden State blvd south of town..first place I hit was Tuckers..
even though their storage building had burned and they crushed 8000 cars five years ago the place is a trip..from the 30's to the 70's...I was looking for a pair of icepick doors..they had two but they weren't clean,so I left them..but before I left they pointed me toward Abes..
I pull in this VW only yard and there is this old timer standing out front..he had signs posted not to wander around so I was cool and walked up asking about the doors..he didn't have none, but it wasn't two minutes later I realized I was in the presence of history..Abe is 85 years old and had been running the yard for 50 years..a sparkle in his eye and salty as hell, wasnt long before we were bullshitting,a treat Im sure many a Fresno Vw type has had..nope,didnt find what I wanted..but meeting Abe was very, very cool.... |
