I'm working on a 550 Spyder kit. The top of the foot well, had a trough for the feed pipe on the Type 1 fuel tank, that protruded into the cockpit. The trough was in the way of the accelerator pedal. I had the fitting relocated on the tank, and I removed the trough. I need to patch the rectangle-ish hole left in the foot well.
I haven't done any fiberglass work in years, and even then it wasn't a core strength. The area under the tank/top of the foot well is not flat. I was thinking I could put a temporary aluminum patch on the under side, in the foot well, then glass in the hole.
Thoughts? _________________ My Spyder 550 build: http://www.thebouthilliers.com/spyder/ |

Lots of ways to skin a cat.
You can use just about anything to make the shape and then cover it wioth Saran Wrap or wax paper. The fiberglass won't stick.
I have also used the spray foam in a can. Spray a big blob, let it harden,. shape it to the desired shape and then glass over it. Yiou can then wire wheel the foam out of the shape from the back. |
