Hello everyone! When I was taking my case off the engine stand to have someone remove the flywheel gland nut, I found this marking in white towards the top edge of the case:
It looks like it reads: 115-010-R; so what does that mean? Has this case been rebuilt once before, possibly by the factory? I have no clue as I have never seen this type of marking before. Thanks in advance for your help!

Something from production. I see this all the time on other parts and other makes of cars. Those same style of numbers are on the back of my dash pad giving the production/assembly date. _________________ 1973 Super Beetle l 1981 Trans Am |

I got an interpretation from someone on the vortex: it means it's a factory rebuilt case with .010 over align bore..I guess that makes sense lol |

Cant help myself...
I guess it comes from the fact that it's got a pinion bearing in the middle of it, which makes it somewhat similar to a gland in a stuffing box - used in steam engines to seal around a straight-moving con rod. Not the same, as the pinion bearing does not carry right through the nut, but somewhat similar.
But you can call it a big fat bolt if you want :-) _________________ Rob
