Can anyone please help me? I was driving down the road and put the gas paddle all the way down and it got stuck. I had to stomp on it to get it to come up. Now the paddle keeps sliding to the side off of the thing it sits on. I am new to this site and just got my first beetle. I kind of wish I would have not spent so much on it but is over now.

Well I don't think that I have the roller on it, like I said I just got the car and this just happened.

You can get the little roller and all that hardward shown in the pic at many on-line vendors.

bending the connecting lever is very common....no matter how hard you step on the pedal it wont make them go any faster...

I ordered the accelerator repair kit off of Wolfsburg West. I hope to get it soon and have it on the road again.

well, if your not moving, or moving slowly, stepping harder on the pedal normally makes the car go faster, but there is a limit on how hard you can step

I think you meant "gas peddle".

But you should have typed "gas pedal". Spelling is important, sure helps with computer searching !!!

Cusser, some of us have a "Paddle". Mel Brooks had a defective one in "Blazing Saddles".

Okay, sorry. "Gas Pedal." I found some zip ties that I bought and I zip tied the pedal to the connecting lever. It seems to be working for now but I am still waiting for the repair kit so I can but the roller back on it.

Like others posted earlier: make sure that the "Connecting Lever" is not bent; the "rod that goes through the "Roller" should be perpendicular to the north-south axis of the VW, and parallel to the ground.

I can just see folks stampeding to their HS geometry books !!!

Another thing about that connecting lever is the condition of the hole that the end of the accelerator cable sits in. They can get awfully ovalled out over the years.

Well I have had it for about a week now but I finally installed the pieces that I needed and I works great. I also had to change my plugs and wires so everything seems to be running fine now.

Glad to hear it, you don't want to be up a creek without your gas paddle. Welcome to the world of air cooled VWs.
