59 Kombi strange tail light identification help

I have an early 59 kombi with a strange tail light opening on the passenger side. There does not appear to be any welding at all on either corner.

it looks as if the whole corner was replaced, you can see the goober welds in the seal channel on the left side of the photo. the factory weld job there is far nicer

HA ha, Yes. I was waiting for someone to call me out on that.

It also appears there is no dove blue popping through on this back corner.
