hi, I just bought these nice split tail light units from Kafer Nostalgie.

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=164249

I have a 12V setup. all he has are the 6v bulbs. could someone be as so kind to post a link or part number for the 12V bulbs?

And, these units should work with my 12v setup, right? I know I might need a diode and what not to make them work, but not too sure of it will be a straight up wiring job or not?

Thanks again everyone!

12 volt bulbs you can get everywhere.
Even in your local supermarket if it has some car spares.

Diode? What diode?

those position lamps you bought are, well, position lamps. with a red glass. you can use them as position lamps: put a bulb in, connect positive and negative and they light up. it's the most basic of the direct current circuits.

thanks again GArBa!

I wasn't sure if I needed a diode or not when I posted that, because I saw on Flat4's website that they sell a pair of diodes with a flash relay with their oval lights they have up for sale. Seems like you need this flash relay and these diodes in order to get it to flash.

However, I clarified with Francisco Barone at Kafer Nostalgie that I don't need them. I picked up some VW back up lights and some vintage hotrod indicator lights that I'm going to mount to my rear bumper. Since those rear tail lights are dual filament, I will use them as a running and brake light, and will therefore not be able to use them as an indicator light.

ok, so you dont need "a diode".

you need a way to figure out how to have the features of your current (elephant's feet) set up (turn signal, position/brake light and reverse light) with your new one.
