Just saw this online today, noticed is strikingly similar to some of the mods I've seen done on this forum, and says it's patented......

Anyone actually buy one of these? _________________ -----

The item has been on the market for about three years. I'm considering a buy, but it seems it could be made for less . _________________ '90 White Westy ("The Longship")

a hand pump shower, you have to heat the water first, or fill it from a hot faucet

a battery powered shower pump, drop it into a container with hot water and youre done

and here is a thread with a link to the $200 roadshower, and clear PVC pipe, if you want to make your own roadshower

personally any shower that is solar, including the roadshower, is a non starter in most of the places I need hot water, which is, when I park in the shade, when I park in the fog, and when I park in the snow.. for me solar showers dont work in winter sun either.. |

Check out the Big Kahuna showers. They come in 3 sizes and are sold at West Marine. You would have to leave them in the sun or put warm water in them. They have a built in battery pump and good reviews.

batteries NOT included, must plug in to cig lighter. Small one weighs 40 pounds when full, and has no handle..
the container is available for under $20
http://www.amazon.com/Gamma2-Vittles-Vault-Food-St...2JKP55N7E4
it is made for dog food, and has an odor proof lid with rubber seal.. excellent for containing odors. Will not heat up in the sun as well as a bag shower.
Bag shower does not require power, fits in the luggage rack out of sight. _________________ My Soapboxes: Inflation; Handling; Gearing; Decoupling; Swepco |

His patent includes a number of features like pressurization, the mounting system, clear top and solar collector inside. You have to copy all the specifics to be infringing on his patent. Just making a solar shower that is kind of shaped the same isn't enough. |

I have used the bag shower and there is no comparison to a shower with and electric pump. The water dribbles out of the bag, the bag must be hung from something and it weighs 41 lbs when full (water weighs approx. 8.3lbs per gallon. This sits on the ground, you could use the BusDepot shelter on the back hatch and have a shower room available. The only advantage I see for the bag shower is it collapses when empty. Now Zodi has a cigarette lighter pump you can drop into our water tank and use that water. Another possibility.
The problem with the RoadShower is you have to keep pumping air into it as the water level drops, unless they have changed the design since I last looked at it.
Interesting, it does look like BigKahuna has used the pet food container. How did you find that? _________________ 1984 Westy Wolfsburg, owned since 1987. FAS 2.0 NA engine conversion in 2022. |

The handle end of the bag shower can be tied to the front luggage rack cleat. It does not need to be moved to a tree, just fold down over the windshield, sit on front bumper, and shower..
the slower trickle of the bag shower means 2 gallons is enough for a lengthy shower, no need to fill to 5 gallons unless you want to.
when bag is stowed on luggage rack, either tie the spout end to the back luggage cleat, or use a motorcycle helmet net, to cover the luggage rack and keep the shower from flipping down onto your windshield when you stop.
I know about the pet food containers because I buy them at Petsmart, for petfood.
I also use one of the petfood containers next to my cat litter box, every time I scoop it out, I put the scoopings in the dedicated waste container. Contains ALL the cat toilet scoopings smell until ready to dispose of in bulk.
These pet food containers have excellent rubber O ring seals, completely water and odor proof. They also come in 3 and 5 gallon bucket size, with handle, and same screw on lid, Ive seen them at Home Depot. Can be used as a toilet, with tall kitchen garbage bags, and will store used bags until suitably disposed in a trash can.
Yes I think its weird to dump a bag of human waste in a trash can, but I learned it from the Pett Toilet, that uses bags.. apparently its kosher. Though Im sure the homeless crew fishing through the trash wont love it.
anyway, back to showers _________________ My Soapboxes: Inflation; Handling; Gearing; Decoupling; Swepco |

Nice, I have always clipped the bag to the rear poptop hinge, thinking it was stronger than the cleat. Can those cleats hold 40lbs? _________________ 87 Westy 2.1L, manual (sold) |

Yup, I once forgot to tie down the back end. Was a bit shocked when it flopped down onto the windshield at a stop light.. (it was mounted passenger side... recommended) so yes, 40 pounds plus the launch and jerk, no problem. _________________ My Soapboxes: Inflation; Handling; Gearing; Decoupling; Swepco |

I just installed a Road Shower. Haven't had a chance to use it yet. I'm very impressed with the quality. I'll report back... _________________ 84 Westy Syncro- 3.3L SVX stage 2 tune, subaru gears 6speed with tbd, front locker, porche brakes x4, aux tank, radflo susp |

I have a Road Shower on my van, and I've sold a few. It works well. The hose needs to be longer, and it's a bit of a pain to climb on the ladder to pressurize but it's perfectly functional. We use it more for dirty feet and rinsing dishes. I can feel the water sloshing around when driving if it's not full, if I were to design and build one, it would have a baffle in it. Well built product. I have heavy duty Jack Bombay shocks to help lift it up.

Big Kahuna...does this get warm if left in the sun?
Like on top of the luggage rack or wherever? I would think that a black plastic exterior would be better than white or blue.
I have the rear tent from BD and with a shower curtain ( for the rear hatch opening) and a fake grass mat, this would be a great shower unit. Our first camping trip of the season is mid May (I love camping for Mother's Day) and we're three days in the van. We need at least a head-crotch-pits shower. And for 13 gallons for that price...WOW! And the good kind.
Has anyone used this as a solar kinda unit with the sun heating up the water?
Thanks!
(I'll finish painting the van today, do the wheels tomorrow and the top over the week) _________________ Ginny in Denver-ish

Has anyone mounted the RoadShower to the rain gutters in their van? I'm not sure what attachments would be necessary (I'm sure I can fabricate something), but is 55lbs too heavy for a rain gutter?
I only ask because my parking garage has very low clearance and I don't want to be taking roof racks on and off everytime I go camping. Here are the specs of the unit: http://www.roadshower.com/specs.html
Thanks. _________________ 1969 Squareback, 1776cc

Thanks for that link, it sounds like the only concern is that the water doesn't get that hot. That's ok with me since most of the camping we do is in warm sunny weather where we don't need a hot shower - 'room temperature' is usually fine.
My van is a stock height multivan but our parking garage only has about 6'5" clearance, so mounting it to the drivers side rain gutter would be ideal. _________________ 1969 Squareback, 1776cc
