Are the tins on a 1300 a one year only or will tins from a 1200 or 1500 work on it? I need a rear tin (#23 see photo) and want to find the one that will fit right.
Thanks for any help.

One year only. 1500-1600 will fit but you will need to block the the extra preheat tube hole. 1200 will not fit as it is about 10mm to narrow _________________ View my 66 build thread here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=507996 |

1200 36 HP engine tin will not fit 1200 40 HP without major hackage.
Either of those 1200 engine tins will not fit 1300, 1500, or 1600 engines.
Fan shrouds are the only exception, because the base of the shrouds has same dimensions.
You can look up this info and lots more you need to know in the parts reference manuals @

I looked for the T1 parts list, but could only find the T2 list so...
Are the air deflector plates different between 1300 and 15/1600 engines?
I know the 40hp plates are more narrow, but i seem to have 2 different styles of wider plates.
How many styles of these plates are there? _________________ WANTED:

The type 2 parts reference manual is about 90% the same as beetle in the engine section.
You can access the type 1 parts manual thru the "Upcoming" button at top right of that webpage.
While there are differences, the 1300/1500/1600 engine tin are same width due to using same crankshaft stroke. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

So there must be differences in the apron tin. _________________ WANTED:

The rear cover plate tin and just forward of the pulley tins must be a matching pair. Helps to match those to the air cleaner or the air cleaner to the tins. So you are able to run pre-heat tube/s from below the tins to the air cleaner.
Rear apron curvature changed with the 1961 model year when VW went from 36 HP to 40 HP. So when installing a 1600 engine the rear cover plate tin must be trimmed to fit the rear apron. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Yeah, I am looking for an apron tin with the small hole on tthe left side. It's a bus 1600 engine. so it had the large hole on the right. I am going to be running a 40hp air cleaner. _________________ WANTED:

Easiest way would be to find a 1967 Beetle cover tin and matching pulley tin. Then block off the right side heat riser hole in the cover plate. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

StockNazi, rear tin you're looking for shouldn't be hard to find
(that is to say if you plan on taking the pre-heat off of #4 cylinder head with the appropriate stove pipe fitting ).
Same one should fit Type II 1500's from mid-'63 up to '67, Ghia's from whenever they went to 1500's up until '67, and Beetle 1300's for almost all of '66.
Not sure of the exact part number suffix, but if you care to research it here's a direct link to that parts catalog mentioned...

Thanks for listing what years/models the apron tin was used on; that will be helpful.
Yes, I am planning on taking the pre-heat off #4 with the small stove pipe.
Got to have a working pre-heat on my engines and working thermostats as well. _________________ WANTED:
