Hi Guys,

Just finished stripping down what i believed was an old Matador case, no numbers.

Casting date is 55' however sump nut is offset like early 25hp?

Any ideas on what this could be and what it could be worth?

Thanks,

For me it looks to be a regular 36hp case, the oil pump tube shortened on May 1956.

Thanks Mika, think its replacement block from 55' can't see any Matador numbers behind pedestal a few people refer - no numbers anywhere.

Anybody have pictures of where matador engine numbers can be found?

Yep, changed for the '60 model year. The case still had the boss, it just wasn't tapped for the plug.

For years I have seen this forum refer to the inside tower, three circle casting numbers to have designation of the "shift". Is this just a guess or is this verified ? Does this mean the first number in the third circle has to be 1,2 or3?

I think it is speculation. However no one has ever shown a casting number that has something other than 1, 2, or 3 in that position.

We can stop speculating. I have a case with a "4" in that position.
Downloading and posting a photo from my iPhone looks like a big deal so maybe later.
Anyway the "shift" question is solved. It is not a factor.
