I've been waiting to actually get them before I put them up on the site, should be sometime soon. There were a few available and that may be where some places that are listing them got some sets. And no, these are not the same as the 356 80mm P/C set. _________________ 30 years experience in the sales of new and used auto parts!

Seems like a better idea than try to modify my 83mm 40hp set...

Depends on wheter you want to work a little or not to get the extra 80 cc
That said, the 80 mm solution is not a bad idea as it does leave a more sturdy cylinderwall.
I had a set of 83 mm 356 Biral cylinders modified to accept the 30 hp bolt pattern this spring. They were a PITA to get right.

Wow! A game changer…
Anyone got the measures on the skirts? Are they long enough if one wants to use spacers for a stroker crank?

I think the point is no one has seen a set yet... or am I wrong. But they are on their way... |

Why do you think the skirts would be shorter?
I'm planing on buying a set and use them it with my stroker crank.
If there isn't anybody with any experience on these, then we all will have to make our own, and then get back to this thread in a year or two _________________ http://vw-bluehats.blogspot.com/ |

30/36 hp pistons came in two versions. One with short, and one with long (pre -57), cylinder skirts. I don't know how important it is, but if spacing for a 74 mm stroker the longer ones will give better support.
Another thing I am curios about is how important the wall thickness is. The hole in the case is 81.8 mm which give a 0.9 mm wall thickness with 80 mm cylinders. It might be OK, but it feels a bit thin. |

Guys will these go with a pepco charger or will this be to much for a standard 30hp engine?
Are these available to purchase? I'd appreciate your comments
cheers

These are brand new, not much experience from anyone yet. Follow the link above, appears John at aircooled.net is selling them

Thanks I never noticed that, must only have had my hands on pre 57 cylinders, will go and check if I have some that are different in skirt length.
My first question also involved the wall thickness, as I'm also a bit worried if the cylinders will get to much heat and then turn oval instead of round?
I agree with you that 0,9 on the skirt sounds a bit thin. _________________ http://vw-bluehats.blogspot.com/ |

Here is a pic of early/late 30/36 hp cylinders (for a 69,5 mm crank I think the shorter would be sufficient, but with 74 mm I would go for the longer ones):

I checked my stash and found some cylinders with different skirt length.
The long skirts are 32mm and the short ones are 24mm, I'm using 4mm cylinder shims so I don't think the skirt length will be a problem. _________________ http://vw-bluehats.blogspot.com/ |

80mm is a very good idea but the "slip in" with 0,9 is way to thin in my world, I have originals with cracs in this area... it must be very thin in the top end also |

By the way: Is this a real product or a "test balloon"?
I remember back in the 80's some of the "innovative" VW aftermarket suppliers sometimes advertised products that did not exist just to check if there was a market interest... _________________ __________________________________________ |
