Carb noise with different air filters?

I've been running with my Express motor for 5 years and the only thing that ever has bothered me is the noise from the 28pci carbs. I'm running the stock single strap 54-55 oil bath filters, but recently I got my hands on a set of original Knecht filters (the 356 and okrasa version) and they are actually a lot quieter now.
That got me thinking anybody else with experiences like this? And knows why it's like that?
My own theory is that hole for the carb is offset combared to tube inside the filter were the airflow is?
Anyone that can clarify if I'm right before I start modifying the old single strap filters?
