Greetings team PDX,
I'd like to introduce myself and get in the PDX mix with the quickness.
My name is Johnny, and I am a transplant from SLC. I have a newly fitted '86 Syncro and Zetec, and I am camping every weekend for the foreseeable future because this place is awesome!. I know a pile of you and I look forward to meeting all the rest.
In my quest to get straight into things here, I got rear ended yesterday coming home on the 26. Props to Vanagons, it took a decent hit with style. I drove the van home and I think it still has a future, but it needs some fixing. Can anyone recommend a team for some rear bodywork?
Also, if you can recall any favorite threads on dealing with insurance companies in repairing vans, that would be pretty awesome. I have this lording feeling I am going to get worked in this whole mess.
Finally, while I look for a place to buy, please keep your ear out as I am looking for a place to live. Apartment, duplex, roomies, all considered.
Now that's an introduction! Thanks folks, I look forward to hanging out soon.
I dont want to swerve this thread, so feel free to PM me. _________________ On a mission, the destination is just an excuse.

Bad luck Johnny!
Look forward to camping with you on one of my PDX-cursions. Hopefully I'll get to Moab again one day too! |
Ditto!
I'm up in the Seattle area now, but grew up in the Portland area, so I guess the proper thing to do is to simply say WELCOME TO THE NORTHWEST!! _________________ "Sometimes you have to build a box to think outside of." - Bruce (not Springsteen)

I saw you yesterday on my way home, couldn't tell if you were involved from the opposite side of 26.
Sorry to see you got hit.

Howdy Johnny,
That's a helluva welcome to our town. But welcome, nonetheless! I can't offer any advice on local body shops – I'm a recent transplant too – but I'll be interested to hear more about your repair experience so I can file it away for future reference. Looking forward to meeting you in person at a future get-together.
Speaking of which, anyone have any ideas for the next meetup? _________________ I'm pullin' into town on the interstate, I got a steel train in the rain.

Massive BBQ at my place in Beavertron during my Subi conversion? I would love to see 10 plus Vanagons on my street and so would my neighbors B-) Stay tuned. _________________ VW

i have used sharp auto body located at se 26th and gladstone ( near both the hub brewery and gigantic brewery as an fyi) they did great work on my 84 westy . phone number is 503-232 9325.
mine was insurance work so they are sanctioned by state farm ( or have been in the past. ) saw a white tin top vanagon there this morning when i took my daughter to school.

I can recommend Steve's Imports in SE Portland. They do mechanicals and collision and work with insurance companies. They are VW people and have their own vws. I recently had someone back into me and got a new front bumper out of it. Steve's also did some free diagnostics as it was running rough and told me it was the AFM, which I replaced with a used one from another Van owner. They aren't the most inexpensive shop, but that's also a good thing. My insurance company is USAA and the adjustor was impressed with the shop.
Good luck |

I had major rear-end damage repaired at Sam's Auto Body and Paint in SE Portland, 3320 SE 50th Avenue. It was kind of fun having a Vanagon in there amongst the Beemers and Mercedes and Ferraris. They did excellent work. The other party's insurance wasn't happy with my choice but I am.
Keep us posted! |

It's time for the Portland Urban Safari !
http://www.urbansafari-pdx.com/
This year's event is happening on Oct 26th. We limit the registration to 50 due to the difficulty in herding that many vehicles through the city.
Vehicle costume is mandatory as well as participant costumes. Take a look at last year's gallery on the web site for ideas.
