any body have a easy way of reinstalling the torsion bar. The previous owner took it off, but I think I figured out how it goes, but the tension is more then I want slamming against my hand.

Also the rear deck lid torsion bars are off too. Anybody have a pic of those for a fastback?

There's a special tool required to get the trunk spring in. When I installed my front trunk spring, I bought a piece of steel rod and bent it to shape per the instructions in this document:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/local_manufacture/709b.jpg
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/local_manufacture/709c.jpg

Putting the spring on requires that you take the hood off, put the center of the spring in the clip/bracket at the center of the car, and twist the ends into place with the tool.

This thread might be helpful:

I made something just for this exact purpose since my front torsion spring decided to pop out. If you want, I can send you the tool that I made and used on my hood torsion spring. Just pay for the shipping to get to you and you can have it. Should be about $5 or so.

No probs. The tool is simple to make using 1/8" thick steel rod, grinding, and welding.

Sorry, already been shipped to clatter. After he is finished using it, you may want to ask him.

And sorry, not rod, but flat bar. I was really tired when replying to you.

Can anyone tell me in which direction to turn the rod? It looks to be clockwise on the right side (passenger) and counter-clockwise on the left side (driver). Is that correct?
