Hi Guys,
I'm currently building a 356A Coupe replica and I can't find any information on the correct mounting points for 57 on teardrop rear lights. I have searched various forums and can only find info for the earlier Bee Hive rears, can anyone help at all??

I know It's a replica and it will never be a real Porsche but I'd like the bits I put on it to be in the 'right' place to start with.

Thanks in advance of any help....

I checked the position of my original teardrop lights on my 59 356A. The drawings in the factory workshop manual do not give the dimensions.

Its a difficult position to work out so I measured carefully 2 positions. Firstly each teardrop are located with 2 screws. The spacing ( or pitch ) on mine equates to 163mm by eye.

If you take the ' inner' screw hole on the left side of then car and the inner screw on the right side the distance between both screws equals 800mm.

The lights are positioned of course exactly equal distance from the car body centre line. To get the correct height of the lights go to the engine bay and open the lid. Nothing is square but you need to find the middle of the opening and mark it. Then with a rule drop down from the lid at the point where the shut line gap is 268mm and mark. Then a horizontal line across the back of the car to make sure the lights are in line.
Then from the centreline you marked go out 400mm on each side and drill for the inner screws.

I believe those screws locate the light body with the bulb holders. But its been a while since I took mine off so check that point and adjust if the bulb holders are seperate from the ones I measured from.

I just checked mine roughly & the dimensions seem to be the same as Roy has posted. I have a 59a also.

Roy,

Thank you very much for your detailed reply. MHW, thanks to you also for confirming the above. The laser level and tape will be out in the morning.

Regards,
John
