There is no "best".
I use Norton 360 on my home desktop and Symantec Endpoint on the desktops at work. _________________ Glenn

Been running Kaspersky for years. Seems to have "less" interaction with the majority of the programs I run (graphics industry) and doesn't seem to slow the computer too much. Had Norton and McAfee; Norton was ok, McAfee sucked with slowing down the systems. Lots of freeware out there too - I also have Avast as a backup and I used to run AVG, both decent for what they are. |

AVG Free has been working for me for years, but I'm not reckless about downloading lots of videos, visiting odd websites, etc. My daughter who is a little more reckless than me also has AVG Free but I have had to restore her laptop to factory condition once. So AVG is good for the cautious user but maybe not as good for people who take more chances. _________________ Central Jersey VW Society

Your best anti-virus protection is an external hard disk backup system, plus a restore/install disc set. That also lets you back up your precious photos and documents. There are scary stories about a virus encrypting your hard disk and then $$$ extortion threats followed by losing all your data.
If you have a periodic backup disconnected from your system you are bulletproof.
There are external USB/SATA drive "toasters" that let you buy a cheap ($100) hard drive and just slide it in a slot. Then backup all you want, and eject it. Save it in a safe deposit box or other location and you are free from theft, viruses, fire, etc.
Next best are commercial programs (or free AVG), though they slow things down.
Or buy a Mac which is targeted far less often. |

^^This.. After 27 years with PCs we switched over to a MacBook a year ago and are so much happier. Far fewer issues and problems. _________________ Larry in OB

on my home computers I used to run AVG but subsequent versions kept getting heavier and heavier on the machine, so I switched to Avira and I can say I'm quite happy with it.
of course the best protection is always prevention: being careful on the internet, with USB drives and always having a couple of backup drives. _________________ cars:

for me, who I don't download anything and / or go to obscure websites Norton 360 does it's job. I found the multi user purchased directly from Norton is a lot cheaper. s. _________________ I'd be UNSTOPPABLE if not for Law Enforcement and PHYSICS.

I haven't used anti virus software on my pc's in years and have been almost trouble free ever since. I had more issues with them than I do w/o them and I ran my last laptop into the ground before any virus could take it out. |

personally I would rather deal with the virus issues then deal with the shitty programing of apple
if you have Comcast you can get Norton for free
but if you really don't want to get viruses stay away from children's websites like Disney and things like that they are full of pop up ads that have viruses attach also a lot of youtube stuff aimed at kids is a virus trap too
kids are "click happy" and their websites have more viruses then porn sties do _________________ '60 15 window walkthrough

I've had great luck for years with AVG (free version) and using Malwarebytes periodically.
Edit: I also am careful about what I click on, and am not into porn, so maybe that has to do more with it than the above mentioned combo? |

There are many opinions on virus protection software as there are questions on other subjects. I've been using Norton Internet Security since 2002 without any issues. Norton's virus protection software options has several choices depending on what the customer wants to do. One of the features I like best about Norton Internet Security is that it saves and protects all of your usernames and passwords for every site you want to keep secure. _________________ Pearl White 1966 Sedan

How are you getting along with win 8- I took a new tab back to Radio Shack after trying for 28 days to master it. Paid the same money for a used Think Pad with win 7 just to get away from it. _________________ some days I get up and just sit and think. Some days I just sit.

I'm getting around ok but I liked the old setup better. Probably why I'm posting from my phone right now when the computer is only 10 feet away _________________ Schrodinger's cat walked into a bar and it didn't.

I use Avast the free side of and no issues. Also use CCleaner daily to get rid up the index.dat file that holds all of the stuff about where you have been.
You cannot delete the index.dat file manually. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

I have used Norton antivirus products (currently Norton 360) for about 10 years. I renew it for about $34 per year through an Amazon seller. I also set it up to do a weekly system scan and backup that takes less than one-half hour. |
