After driving a V6 camry/5 spd. for 7 years, I find the 2.5/5 spd. in my 2012 Golf to come up wanting. I know, shoulda' sprung for the GTI but didn't. I'm thinking supercharger. Maybe VW's own--What'd they call it---G ladder? Does anyone know anyone making a bolt on kit? Additionally, is anyone doing any other kind of intake/exhaust enhancements to these units? I don't recall being so put off by the sound (or lack of) of my '86 quantum GL5 (5 spd. natch.) |

Thanks for your reply Al. I can certainly appreciate your perspective. Thanks also for the link to the other camp. I'm still thinking supercharger.

Where have you seen a SC for the 5-cylinder?
ach60 is giving very good advice. Whatever you put into your current Golf in modifications is not only money lost down the road, it also will lower the value of your Golf down the road more than normal depreciation. The 2.5 is a good engine and people will want it if you don't futz with it. Not everyone wants a robust engine.
You even mention regret for not getting a GTI, so it's not just ach60's voice you should consider, but your own as well. Good luck either way. I'm still curious about where one gets a SC for the 2.5. _________________ Now: 2003 New Beetle Turbo S / 1990 Single Cab Transporter / 2014 Tiguan R-Line 4motion / 2013 Tiguan S / 2002 Golf GLS TDI

Turbo kits are available, that is the most common way I have seen people hop up the 2.5. _________________ I will never lie, but sometimes the truth changes.

"common"??you mean like hen's teeth common? I agree with the other poster, sell it and buy the factory hotrod, will be cheaper and more reliable in the long run. Support (hardware and firmware) for the 2.5 is just not out there.
Another option is to keep the car and buy an older car and hotrod that, then you have the relaibility in the newer car and the actual ability to mod a car with support and parts available. |

Okay, so not forced induction. Anyone out there doing any intake/exhaust work?

I thought I read a few posts about such things existing and even being mildly effective in the 2.5L forum over at the Vortex. Keep reading and even post up over there. Be sure to try the "search" function, sometimes it actually produces results. |
