So as of yesterday every last part od my front end has been chemically stripped to bare metal. It all looks like the day it was born. I spent a little while photographing factory markings and part #'s and then acid washed everything in muriatic acid...then neutralized in a tub of baking soda and water.
It was stupendous what came out of the gas tank. The acid took it down to bare metal...squeeky clean. It was about 5 pounds of scale....mostly ga s tank varnish and dirt.

So I let everything flash rust overnight in preparation for the phosphoric acid dip to convert all flash rust and remaining rust spots to iron phosphate...awesome primer! Everything was orange this morning.
The product I have is Jasco metal prep and primer liquid. It looks and smells just like ospho. But...it notes to dilute it 3 to 1 with water. I did a little like that and it works just like ospho....neutralizes slowly and then the liquid is dead.
So.....I put a half gallon uncut into the tank. Worked it around for an hour or so....then dumped it out in a bowel. It was still rockin strong. Treated the whole front suspension aith that half gallon and it still eats concrete!

The interesting thing is that ospho will convert most flash rust to iron phosphate. This stuff just disolves it....and converts only thick patches. Awesome product. Its about $35 a gallon but is about equal to 3 gallons of ospho. Ray
