Just sent the guy a PM. That would be pretty sweet if he still has it. I see OG SWR parts are hard to come by, at least nice painted parts.
Another questions.
Does anybody know who makes humpback seat covers? Original style covers. I contacted Wolfsburg West today and they told me to check with West Coast Classics. Is that where I should go?

This guy on this site had an ash tray for sale on eBay a little while ago, I never saw it sell:

If Matt Miller is still putting together seat covers I'd contact him. His username is "Matt Miller".
Congrats on the find! |

Oh I will be. It's going to stay bone stock. Nothing changed on the truck. I have a little more fine turning on the polishing to do. I used Color Back Turtle Wax and am pleased with the results. I was thinking about using his. Does anybody know how much his humpback seat covers run? I am excited to of found a SWR ash tray from a lead Everett turned me onto. Thanks! The brakes work but are pulling, possibly sticking on one side. So tomorrow I have planned to tear the brakes apart and rebuild the rubber parts of them. Will keep updating on the progress.

Spectacular find and story!!! You are one lucky guy!
You are on the right track IMHO. Keep her bone stock, polish out and protect the original factory paint, avoid any touch up unless necessary, and then only if your painter can color-match and blend the repair. Order up a "Matt Miller" made upholstery kit for your bench seat (humpback?). A SWR ashtray and radio delete plate should eventually pop-up somewhere. I would definitely tear apart and go through your working but unknown quality/condition brake system right away. Also, brand new rubber brake hoses, and all new braided fuel lines with clamps and safety-wire the hose clamps on those brass fittings to the fuel pump and carburetor. Buy and carry a fire extinguisher or two just in case! Cheap insurance for such a beautiful old VW!!!
I have an awesome old original paint SWR 1959 Double-Door panel that cleaned up nicely like yours, one of my favorite old Buses! They should park together someday...
Then "drive the shit" out of that old work truck. Go visit the old woman again soon with the SC and take her for another ride!!! Let her drive! That'll make her glad she sold it to you.

Wow, wow and wow some more.......
You have just scored big time and have many envious VW lovers dreaming of a find like yours. Congratulations, you are understandably super stoked. And what a great story.
Unfortunately, here in Australia, I'm convinced barn or field finds like that are long gone.
Love the polished OG paint
Again, well done! _________________ My brother & I on the roof of Dad's Splitty circa 1967 - I'm the half pint with the skinny legs! |

Great find. That's one of those "once in a lifetime" events. And I am partial to SWR commercials. |

Make sure to replace the soft brake lines as part of your rebuild process. They are notorious for causing your described symptom.
Great score on a very nice truck. It is a find that any if us would be extremely happy with. _________________ nothing |

Great find!
Any idea of the reasoning behind the relocated gate latches?

Yup, I have seen that happen to a friends bug before. I picked up some German brake lines today so I would like to try to get that done tomorrow. Iv been trying to do something on it everyday so I can get it on the road but need to make sure its safe first.

Thanks! It's in good hands now!
I was trying to figure that out too. I can't think of any reason why you would need to do that and relocate the rear latches. The threads are fine and nothing is stripped or broken off in them. They used front latches when they relocated them.
