The 2016 Type 3 Invasion is one short year away from today!
Our local hosts, Ken and Sue Rogers, have been working hard to secure a location and facility for the event as of today have done so. The basic details have been added to the 2016 Invasion website. Here is the link...
http://www.carartbyjohn.com/2016Invasion/
Check it out and let me know if you are planning on attending and I will get your pin on the map just as we have for previous Invasions.
I will be adding details as we get them worked out for things like the Saturday night dinner location, the "Early-Bird Get Together on Thursday, cruises, site seeing, tech session schedule, etc.
Only 3982 miles round trip for Jill and I! See everyone in a year! |

I think Pedro is going to have his car finished before the Invasion, he will probably have a new project for us to work on
Looking forward to heading out west. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

I added some more Invaders to the map and list.
More importantly I have added the host hotel information! Our hosts Ken and Sue have secured a great rate on a really nice hotel (Comfort Suites) close to the Invasion site. The views are supposed to be great. They have a pool. Breakfast is included. Can't ask for much more.
Check out the details on the Invasion site and make your reservations early.

We have had a major snafu with the host hotel. Seems the Comfort Suites in Prescott Valley has decided to not honor the agreed to price for our block of rooms and has more than double the price!
Our local hosts (Ken & Sue) are working on the problem and it sounds like they have gotten an even better deal than was originally agreed to with Comfort Suites at another hotel.
As soon as I get the details I will post them here and update the website. If you have already made your reservation with Comfort Suites, you probably got an e-mail informing you of the much higher rate. As soon as we nail down the new host hotel, please cancel your reservation with Comfort Suites and switch over to the new host hotel.
Sorry for the confusion. We are trying to keep the Invasion affordable for all of the out of town Invaders. _________________ Later,

That's terrible thing to do to you. Maybe new owners or something. Are hotels that busy in Arizona in the middle of summer? My wife (in the hotel business) says you should go back and press them.
I say everyone should keep their reservations and cancel them at the very last minute.
Good luck and I'm sure something will work out. _________________ Tom Reay

This is an excellent way to turn their own excess greed into a customer service "learning moment" for them! They seem to have done a little "mental calculation" that said demand jumped up because of us, and rationalized the price increase as "free market." Well, they can learn how the "free market" bites back if they treat people badly.
Anyone check them out on yelp or other review sites? I wonder if this is the first time they've pulled a fast one. |

Let's take the high road folks. It is not like they did it at the last minute or anything. It is still 10.5 months away.
Of course we did switch hotels, so their loss.
New host hotel info on the Invasion site.
http://www.carartbyjohn.com/2016Invasion/index.html
I also added some more links to photos from past Invasions for those that have never been to an Invasion.
Still looking for some of the San Diego Type 3 contingent to commit. And there have got to be a few more Type 3s in Az and maybe New Mexico. How but some high rollers out of Las Vegas or other parts of Nevada. _________________ Later,

Hey there. I have had my 1968 squareback for coming up on a year. I am still learning, it's been slow as I am a novice and a half, as well as a working class schmuck, so my time is here and there at best. I really hope to make the invasion next year, as a matter of fact I am planning on it. My square is still fuel injected and will remain so, and is at the moment running pretty good as far as I can tell. I don't think however it would make the full ride to Az.I really don't want to trailer it to get there. I want to take it all the way. If I can manage to re wire it and get my electrical under control this fall, I would like to then adress its long trip capabilities. Are there any New Mexico people here that have the time and patience to help me achieve this? Any wise type 3 folks coming through I can caravan there with and learn from along the way? Most of the Vw community I have met here in Albuquerque are great but they are usually bug and bus types, and nearly all hold up a cross like I'm Dracula when I mention fuel injection. The thought of a trailer breaks my heart, as I am hoping to bring my 2 sons and wife and have something to remember for a long time.
