I'm planning on getting a 63-69 Beetle and looking to get a Chevrolet engine, preferably 4-cylinder, that is easily adaptable to fit one.

Check here . . . http://www.kennedyenginc.com/Pages/EngineOptionList4cyl.aspx
Expect to do some body modifications to the Beetle and, depending on the power output of your chosen engine, the VW transaxle could use some "beefing-up".

I'm curious why... I'm all for good mods, I have a Chevy motor in my Toyota, but wondering why you want a Chebby in your VW. A turbo Corvair might be cool in the Bug!

I say go crazy, run a fuel injected type 3 (keeps you from having to cut a hole in the hood for the upright fan housing).

for a beetle I think a 490 motor would be perfect. 171ci 26hp all the latest tech.

Here's a GM Ecotec powered Baja vert

I'm no expert, but I don't think that would fit under a stock lid

I was going to make a comment here, but that guy probably thinks my VW is stupid and ugly too.

The Chevette diesel engine was made by Isuzu, so that might not fit the bill. If you're going that route - DURAMAX Twisted Evil

sold as a Chevy was it not? & I believe partially owned by GM (It was during the 70's LUV truck days). In my book a whole lot more interesting concept, but I get that's probably not the op's intended point. But if you insist dump the Chevy - drop an old Rabbit diesel in it.

I bought a New Beetle with a crap 2.0 engine and am looking to do just that...stick a diesel in it...any thoughts on this? Anyone? I know that they were sold with the TDI engine but I want to go on the cheap...Rabbit engine that I already have or Isuzu, Nissan, I have those engines too.
