I've been in and out of being around VWs for 45 years. I'm working on the Blue Manx .... throwing away the old plug wires and I find this. It has VW stamped in very small logo. My guess it's a pick up for a tach. Did VW have tachs as accessories? Is that what this is ? Or something else?

An inductive tach sensor probably. It uses copper windings to detect the EM pulse in the plug wire. _________________ www.LoCashRacing.org

If you actually drive your VW, you need www.AirMapp.com
My boss told me I need to work on my mutli-tasking. So now when I use the bathroom at work I surf The Samba on my iPhone. |

My 74 westy had this as well. I assumed it was for the dealership to plug in and verify engine RPMS while working on setting the engine up (especially due to emission stuff on the engine)\ |

Ya, that might have been useful if I'd stated the engine it came off of. A '74 dp 1600. I had wondered about a service gadget, since it had the vw logo.
Thanks for the replies. _________________ If you don't have time to do it right the first time, ...when will you have the time to do it over ? |
