I can see some parts inside the tub, I think its the hood and rear roof. I'm pretty sure the hood was metal. The metal panel that would seal under the hood is still mounted.

I'll bet they sealed the front off to keep road dust from coming in to the cabin from there and also to provide some stability. Im wondering if the early racers of these cars discovered that the fiberglass cracked and failed on the original hoods, over time, from the pounding served up by off road racing.

I don't race, but I've experimented with a innertube put up under the dash and partially inflated to serve the purposes I described above.. Less dust. I haven't beat my car enough to test the other function. I know that my innertube would eventually find something sharp or abrasive and would eventually pop...metal fixtures would be better for Baja.

Nice to see the car is in good hands.

This engine would match it well. 1958 Porsche 356 1600 was in a fiberglass street buggy.

Well after 7 months I was able to present my husband with his restored Meyers Manx yesterday! I can't thank everyone enough for all of the support, assistance, and work on this project. Back in August we started and so many great people touched this car. Thank you to you Nelson for all of your help, it was a pleasure to finally meet you. Bruce and Winnie Meyers, Marty Fiolka, Bud Brown, Mike Wheeler, Dick Lemke and most of all, my father in law, Fred Willert. Thank you for making this happen. All of your talents made this such a wonderful project. Each of you played such an important part of the final result and I will never be able to thank you enough.

My husband was thrilled to say the least. He purchased this car back in 1987 from a friend that bought it in San Juan Capistrano. He used to drive this car back and forth to high school before blowing up the engine while on a desert trip!

This project was large but everyone wanted to do it. We are thrilled to put a piece of history back on the road. Our restoration was back to the way it was when James Garner and Scooter Patrick raced it in the Stardust 7-11 in 1968. It turned out fabulous.

Ginny, that was a historically great birthday and unveiling party and totally up to the very high standard set by the amazing restoration of your historic Manx. I know Bruce and Winnie truly enjoyed themselves.

Its a 32NDIX Zenith on a custom center mount manifold. They were a main stay for VW off-road racing in the 60s and 70s.
