The horn is not working on my 57.
Have already determined that the horn itself is shot. Probably from using a 6V V unit on a 12v system.
Car has an aftermarket steering wheel and I only see one wire connected to the horn button. One wire at the horn is always hot.
Plugged a good horn in and it didn't work.
What should I be looking for as I continue to troubleshoot??
Thanks |

How did you hook the horn up?
Have you connected in a test light where the horn should go and had a helper push the horn button?
Have you looked at the wiring diagram for your year and type of VW? _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

The horn was hooked up this way when I inherited the car.
I had a test light on the other lead while a buddy hit the button. The test light did not light up.
I really have studied the wire diagram yet. Was hoping someone would have a past experience. |

If the test light does not light up with button pushed, then you have a wiring or ground problem going from the horn to the horn button or even to the body of your VW.
Remove the horn button and run a wire to the test light and ground the test light to the metal inside the steering wheel. Does the light turn on? _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

Where does the wire to the test light get hooked up to? |

Make sure it's completely grounded. Mine would not work. Had to take off the clamp for the steering box make a bare spot on it and the beam. Then it worked. |
