Just finished up the interior on our ghia. If you guys remember my original posts, the car was "rat rodded", meaning it was covered with spray paint, and stripped. The seats were raw frames with lawn chair foam over the tops!
Lots of parts were missing, like the back seat, the seat backs, etc - but I think it all turned out pretty good!

I'm not criticizing, but shouldn't the carpet cover the bottom of the parking brake boot? Or are you waiting to install a cover that matches the shift boot? |

Thanks for your comments!
The shifter boot was a mistake - I ordered an brake boot from RedlineGoods.com - ( they had done the leather in my old WRX - they do beautiful work.) They sent a shifter book by accident, but it looks so good, I put it on. Fit perfect over the vintage speed shifter.
Yes, that brake boot is pulled out of the carpet, and torn. We're always messing with my suspension (AtomWerk Engineering uses patricia for it's videos) so within 2 days of having it under the carpet it was pulled up again. It kept getting so scratched up, I went ahead and just removed all the paint and cleared it.
Those mats are from Mid America - they were really cheap compared to other cocoa mats-

I sound deadened the whole thing with dynamat style stuff + mass loaded vinyl before I put the carpet down. No resonance - and it is so quiet, I can hardly believe its a vw convertible.
Wires are to the seat warmers with the switches in the kick panels by the speakers. |

Keeping the ratrod exterior, like the "Mango" ghia here? That'd be cool. _________________ 1971 Ghia coupe. Assume I know nothing and you'll be pretty darn close to the truth. |

Good job well done. Inspirational for me. I have my car's seats covered and the doorcards and quarter panels ready. Now for the carpeting.
What is mass loaded vinyl, and where can I source some, if you don't mind sharing? _________________ Festina lente - hasten slowly

It's acoustic soundproofing. _________________ -Jared

Absolutely! I like the character of patina. And once it's "perfect", I'd be too afraid to use it! |

Mass loaded vinyl is a soundproofing that got it's start with acoustical rooms, and things like that. Amazing stuff, but nothing sticks to it - so it's hard to glue stuff to. Luckily, they're making it with foam pre-attached to it, so you can glue it to things, at least on one side.
I made a mistake and should have had the vinyl face down on the floor, and the foam UP, so I could glue the carpet to the MLV, and still been able to pull the floor carpets out if they got wet. But alas. Seems to work ok like it is...
There is no doubt, this is the best $400 we spent on the ghia - the soundproofing.

I used their "damplifier" too - It sticks really well (better than brown bread) and is a matte black which I thought looked better. |

That looks really great.I love the look. Thanks for a heads up on the floor mats too. I just ordered a set for my Ghia.
Well done!

Looks great!
I really like that shade of red for an interior - more of a terra cotta. |
