The following are the things I did on the Kubel within a period of two weeks.
I added provisions for the jack on the rockers.
I copied these windshield stand although I will have to install them soon.
The under the hood jerry can reservior had to be made too.
Finished one with the original jerrycan.
Got these metals for the hood canvas.
I also fabricated this canister for the bypass of the gasoline coupled with the valves for the functioning bypass.
I also made this wooden box for the battery.
Finished one.
I also fabricated a cross bar for the front hooks.
The rear crack sopport and the rear cross bar for the hook.
The rear view!
The front cross bar.
The locks for the deck lid and rear storage bin. _________________ '67 KG Cabrio (Mickey) ;

Some more things I did:
I also fabricated this holder for the starter crank.
Although yet to be installed.
The rear reflector is done now.
Install one.
I also changed the master for better braking power!
I also installed the wide five drums that came from the forthcoiming "The THing" project whihc I borrowed for a while.
But the 14 inch diameter rims of my The Thing did not give justice to the overall looks of the kubel.
Hence, I took the stored rims of my 1965 ragtop and picked the best rims.
With the 15 inch rims installed, it looked better! I guess, I really need to paint the parts I installed, including these rims and hubcaps too!. _________________ '67 KG Cabrio (Mickey) ;

Update on the Kubel.
I made frames for the window curtains.
The flat bar is always useful in the process. The Measurement is again vital to get the proper allignments. Countless measurements and just one cutting. That's the irony!
This is the pole to be screwed on the frame and inserted into the provisions on top of the door frame.
This may look easy, but installing them on the door frames is so difficult but I got it!
Checking whether the frame fits like a globe! This part is so Tricky!
The finished frames installed on the doors.
Taking some pictures while the windshield is standing and the frames installed! It lloks pretty cool to me!
The gear oil had to be drained and replaced.
I also installed the cranks handles and the hand pump for the tires. Again, I fabricated all the brackets!
I also redid the windshield catch. And it looked beter now.
It I guess, I have to revise the upper portion and make it shorter! But it looks okay to me! _________________ '67 KG Cabrio (Mickey) ;

Update on the Kubel
I was out on the Samba for quite a while.. well, work demands more time.. as usual.
I already installed the crank handle for the puley together with the floor pump which were installed at the back of the decklid.
Of course, the Kubelwagen wont be called as such without the bucket seats. So I had to install these bars on boht sides of the seats!
The bucket seats with the bars.
I also changed the tires with the military style 700x15. It looks better now compared to the time when radial tires were still installed.
I like the stance better. Although my future plan is to install a pair of reduction gear box.
With the military style tires, I wend off roading last weekend with my son. It was cool, although it did not have the real 4x4 off road capabilities, with the installation of the reduction gear box in the future, it may somehow imporeve its off road capabilities.. at least.
When I was backing up and the rear tires got stocked in the mud, the fornt fenders got all the dirts while the tires were spinning endlessly!
Driving on these grasses and bushes plus the irregular elevation of the field was like a walk in the park. The Kubelwagen negotiated with ease!
It be honest, off roading with the Kubelwagen of any Vw for that matter is an awesome experience altogether. I plan to go to some off roading tracks in Rizal, Philippines. _________________ '67 KG Cabrio (Mickey) ;

In the recent Volkswagen Club of the Philippines, Bulacan, Philippine, Show, my Kubelwagen repica won BEST IN KIT CAR!
These some of the pictures of the Kubelwagen during the aforementioned VW Show.

HelloDONGKG
You did a great job in detailing your kübel
IMO I would use a thing front axle and a split bus gearbox with RGB's to give a better original stance ... _________________ La terre n'est qu'un seul pays |

This is a really amazing tribute! Very well done, your skills are incredible.
FWIW, I'm a big fan of authentic tributes but certain logos could have been omitted... kind of sours the whole thing IMO. _________________ Yet another person with a '66 project: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=526418 |

thanks so much. It was fun fixing it. I know that some of the decals may remind us of the past. And if it will cause undue harm here emotionally i can have it revised. I was just trying to make the kubelwagen ala afrika korps authentic.. thanks for the comments i really appreciate it buddy.. _________________ '67 KG Cabrio (Mickey) ;

Just take a look on VW 181 front beam and you can find the parts that are needed to raies the front. Most of the parts you have can be reused. |
