Some more things I did:

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I also fabricated this holder for the starter crank.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Although yet to be installed.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The rear reflector is done now.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Install one.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I also changed the master for better braking power!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I also installed the wide five drums that came from the forthcoiming "The THing" project whihc I borrowed for a while. Smile

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

But the 14 inch diameter rims of my The Thing did not give justice to the overall looks of the kubel.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Hence, I took the stored rims of my 1965 ragtop and picked the best rims.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

With the 15 inch rims installed, it looked better! I guess, I really need to paint the parts I installed, including these rims and hubcaps too!.

Update on the Kubel.

I made frames for the window curtains.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The flat bar is always useful in the process. The Measurement is again vital to get the proper allignments. Countless measurements and just one cutting. That's the irony!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

This is the pole to be screwed on the frame and inserted into the provisions on top of the door frame.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

This may look easy, but installing them on the door frames is so difficult but I got it!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Checking whether the frame fits like a globe! This part is so Tricky!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The finished frames installed on the doors.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Taking some pictures while the windshield is standing and the frames installed! It lloks pretty cool to me!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The gear oil had to be drained and replaced.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I also installed the cranks handles and the hand pump for the tires. Again, I fabricated all the brackets!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I also redid the windshield catch. And it looked beter now.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It I guess, I have to revise the upper portion and make it shorter! But it looks okay to me!

Update on the Kubel

I was out on the Samba for quite a while.. well, work demands more time.. as usual.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I already installed the crank handle for the puley together with the floor pump which were installed at the back of the decklid.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Of course, the Kubelwagen wont be called as such without the bucket seats. So I had to install these bars on boht sides of the seats!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

The bucket seats with the bars.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I also changed the tires with the military style 700x15. It looks better now compared to the time when radial tires were still installed.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

I like the stance better. Although my future plan is to install a pair of reduction gear box.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

With the military style tires, I wend off roading last weekend with my son. It was cool, although it did not have the real 4x4 off road capabilities, with the installation of the reduction gear box in the future, it may somehow imporeve its off road capabilities.. at least.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

When I was backing up and the rear tires got stocked in the mud, the fornt fenders got all the dirts while the tires were spinning endlessly!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Driving on these grasses and bushes plus the irregular elevation of the field was like a walk in the park. The Kubelwagen negotiated with ease!

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

It be honest, off roading with the Kubelwagen of any Vw for that matter is an awesome experience altogether. I plan to go to some off roading tracks in Rizal, Philippines.

This is a really amazing tribute! Very well done, your skills are incredible.

FWIW, I'm a big fan of authentic tributes but certain logos could have been omitted... kind of sours the whole thing IMO.

thanks so much. It was fun fixing it. I know that some of the decals may remind us of the past. And if it will cause undue harm here emotionally i can have it revised. I was just trying to make the kubelwagen ala afrika korps authentic.. thanks for the comments i really appreciate it buddy..

Just take a look on VW 181 front beam and you can find the parts that are needed to raies the front. Most of the parts you have can be reused.
