Temporary driver and passenger seats installed (well how will we get to the brake and light inspection without seats)

New windshield installed:

New seals on the quarter vents:

The hideous wiring that the previous owner installed was burned away, and replaced with some patch wires:

Rear lights wired up and functioning:

Planning on the brake and light inspection to get the Bus back on the road. It's getting closer. Then Dan can at least drive it again.

Also have an original German carb refurbished by volksbitz coming next week. Don't want another fire and he produces quality carbs.

Correction, the seats aren't temporary unless Daniel wants to put stock seats in it later. The lights that are installed are temporary till it goes to a body shop. They will have to be removed and then put back in later. Very Happy

Bob had a spare clear windshield. We did try to install the windshield with the blue tint strip, but it broke Evil or Very Mad

So the clear windshield got installed instead. Very Happy

Ordered a rebuilt carb from VolkzBitz.

Ordered late last week and it turned up yesterday.

I'm impressed. Really nice quality, very well built and looks like new.

The carb will be fitted this week, then it's off to the shop for a Light and Brake inspection.

Went down to help my Son on Sunday to install some Windows and trim:

Sourced a good used rear door to replace the one that was buckled in the fire. Bob and his Son got the door, seal and glass installed. The Bus is now weather tight!!!

Rear door and glass installed:

The Bus passed it's lights inspection earlier in the week. Had a small issue with one of the rear brake drums, finally pulled both rear brake drums off and found one of the brake pistons was leaking and the brake shoes were worn unevenly.
The star adjusters were stuck fast, so Bob freed them up. Decided to replace the brake pistons on both sides and cleaned it all up.

Just waiting on some new brake shoes, which will get installed this week. Then it's back for it's final brake inspection.

Planning on getting the brake testing done early this week, then down to the DMV to get the registration and paperwork completed. Then the Bus will be back on the road.

Quick Update.

Dan's Bus passed the brake inspection yesterday, so it's off to the DMV to re-title the Bus and get it registered for the road. With a little luck he should be driving it later today!!!

From Airhead parts. Dan ordered a complete set from front to back of his Bus, the ONLY seal that wasn't replaced was the rear hatch window, but we will do that when the Bus comes home.

I was not ready for the after fire picture at the start of this thread. Really made me cringe.

Amazing restore from the ashes, a true Phoenix!

Now I need to go check the fuel system on the DbCab and the bug for the 100th time. Never gets old.

Best of luck on your continued restore.

Matt

Not sure, although we do know it has some engine stamps that marked it an industrial engine originally, so who knows what the cog was for.

We do know that before this motor, the P/O installed a larger motor and cut out the air cleaner stand and clamps. They also cut out the engine compartment tin and then pop riveted it back in which contributed to the spread of the fire.

Now, it's back to a daily driver, and Dan is driving it around to various body shops for quotes for metal work repairs. Still can't believe that the Bus is now back on the road and running after this short period of time.

Hat's off to all that helped to pull it all back together!!!

Today My Son and Myself worked really hard on the Bus..............................

We opened the Bus doors, jumped in and just cruised down to the local Electronics store and bought some speakers for the Bus.

Priceless...........

Cleaned up the roof rack, then painted it silver.

Then two coats of clear coat. Pleased how this turned out.

Got the clutch adjusted this morning, it was alittle too tight, so I just backed it off a couple of turns.
Cleaned up the rear of the Bus, and also cleaned up the front cab, then installed a really nice rubber mat:

Re-installed the roof rack after painting the brackets:

So while I was at it, I cleaned up the rear tail gate and painted it blue, just to save it from rust while we get someone to do the body work.

This baby is cleaning up nicely:
