What year? Toyota made them from 1976 until 1992. I had a 1986 that was really nice--the 6 cylinder engine had some pep. Like most '80's cars not so aerodynamic, though. You can't go wrong with Toyotas.

looking at all years id prefer a mx83 (1989-1992) but id also like the other gens. my $100 1990 corolla DX just isnt working out wonder why? Think whats a good price for a running and driving one too. seem to find ones in good condition about $2000

Parents had one when I was a kid, thought it was pretty cool at the time (86? I think). Digital speedo and EQ on the radio.

I owned an 84' Supra for several years, which had the same drivetrain as a Cressida. If I had to do it all over again, I would have stayed away from an automatic equipped car.. The transmission broke, and cost me a buttload of money to fix. I had to swap the engine out when it spun a bearing on #3.
There are OEM stick shift Cressidas out there, but they are few and far between. If you find one grab it! Also, if the car looks like it hasn't been maintained meticulously, I would suggest moving on to the next candidate.

I have done service on a customers 83 w/5speed, its at 260K and still runs just fine w/ some oil usage. My only advise is to keep up with the timing belt and use Toyota parts whenever possible. Avoid automatics w/high mileage. Very well built cars that can be had for cheap...if you can find one!

My parents had one when I was a kid. I think the only reason they got rid of it was because my brother was born and they traded it in for a minivan.

Had a new one in 1985 a wagon, good car until the air conditioning went south. Cost a lot to fix. Toyota don't have their shit together just yet on the premium models. Avoid unless its really cheap

Higher end Toyota at the time, not high sales and very expensive replacement parts and harder to find. Much like the Mazda 929 etc., they are a PITA to keep on the road.

"Wont even turn over" as in turn the key-dash lights come on-click?, or big wrench on the crank pulley yet it won't move?

My mom bought one new in the early 80s IIRC. It was a great car. The only reason she got rid of it was someone else must have needed it more. The police never found it.

did it turn over/run before you got all up in it? did you ever turn the engine over by hand while doing the head to check timing etc?

it ran and drove before I did the head gasket the only things I did to it was head gasket, got the head trued, and random seals. but I got it kinda running last night it was a corroded contact on the par/natural sensor. beside the point right now I got it to run but it wont rev. no matter if I advance the timing or retard it. ......yes the distributor is set correctly. what do you guys think? throttle position sensor?

How confident are you about your cam timing?
