Good morning folks, My 69 needs a new headliner and I was looking at the different kinds. Original style , one piece style, the "fast" style. I want to speak to someone who has put one it.(any kind) Not a professional but a DIY guy/girl who did it him/her self in the driveway or garage. I need to know what tools are needed and what to do first and any tips you may have.
Thx in advance for the Samba support

I installed the black one from jbugs into my old bug by myself. Did this in the winter time and would of been ally easier when warmer.

Remove old headliner. Save the views and plastic end pieces, clean them and set aside.

Go buy a few hundred binder clips from office Depot

Go buy really good adhesive spray

Scrape clean all glue residue

Above does bend clips back slightly

There is a cardboard trick to put in the clips you bent back above the doors. Search for cardboard trick.

Duh! Make sure all windows are taken out, except the door windows.

Install the bows into headliner,

Start installing bows with liner into car.

Have a friend go to the back you at the front and position the liner in place

Once it's set where you like, break out the clips and start clipping away

From now you just need to heat and stretch the liner into shape starting to glue.

You and a friend should be able to do this in a couple hours on a nice warm day including putting the windows back in.

It's really not that hard to do a good job. Just take your time and use lots of the clips to get a tight fitting liner.

Good luck.
