Damn hate when I come across this stuff, it gets me in trouble everytime... Wish it was a bit cheaper though... Do these thing hold anything on the rarity scale? Desirable?

I'm only in the "thinking about it" phase now... and am waiting on some detailed pics & some more specifics, but again I think the price as shown in the ad is a bit high... Any thoughts would be appreciated...

Will update the photos as soon as he sends them...

Even considering the interior shape, that is a good price for this car. Most all of these were "factory" built, not a typical kit car but done by a shop. Every one I have seen was well put together, but their interiors were dated.

If that is your style I'd say go for it! It iisn't my style so I would pass, but I love to see the unusual VW kit cars get preserved. They are part of automotive history.

I passed on one a few years ago. Door design is OK. Seating for the tall is tough. They are relatively rare. Never seen one with a VW engine go for anything near $10k...even when done very well.

Windshields are custom, so I would make 100% sure that the one he has fits the Cimbria and not a Sterling. I do not think the Sterling windshield will fit without mods.

Interior definitely needs work. Can't tell if that's a "regular" or SS from the photos - two different models. The SS actually has less interior space but is a better build car overall. My buddy just put his up for sale, completely restored, etc, etc: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Replica-Kit-Makes-Cimbria-...ars_Trucks
Cimbria are not especially rare, the windshields are, indeed, custom, and my buddy selling his car has the rights to brand new windshields that can be ordered at will. Not cheap, but at least they will fit all year Cimbria. There are no replacement body parts available.

Joe; early model Cimbria were rarely factory built, the later SS tended to have most of the "hard" components installed by the factory (doors, glass) but only a few were ever fully finished by the factory.

Most all info on these cars can be found on my sig link under the history section. We also have a full forum devoted to the wedge cars of the era (Sterling/Sebring/Cimbria) so just about anything you want or need to know is available there.

Ha! I'll bet those tires date to the 70's and are as hard as a rock.

And it appears to be the same car, just hacked to pieces. What the heck happened there? It was a complete car... now it's just a parts shell.

You might as well just finish cutting that car up. Its useless. It completely ruined everything that makes the Cimbria cool.

Yes it's sad.
Yet it's what makes the others valuable. Wicked circle.

This is one reason if I sold one of my buggies/cars, I would not want to see it again, EVER....

Hear hear. Regretfully, I saw my old bay window camper I spent three years restoring, some time after i sold it. Apparently it only took a year and a half for the new owner(s) to completely trash it.

This is particularly sad because it doesn't appear to be a simple case of neglect so much as misguided and wanton destruction.

Yep. One of the problems with running a forum specific to your genre vehicle. My old Sterling was bought and is being "modified" to suit the new owners tastes. I cry every time he posts up new photos. So much work went into that car.. all to be torn out and thrown away.
