Guys,

My newly acquired 36 horse Bug had a 009 distributor when I bought it so I sourced an original cast iron VJU 4 BR 8 but it did not come with the threaded vacuum line. The car is a '63 but with an earlier engine and I am fine with that.

The seller told me they were hard to find and he was most correct.

The vendors don't sell them anymore and I check the classifieds daily with no luck, so...what are people doing that need one?

I could have the fitting made, but cannot even find the dimensions in order to have that done.

I put a wanted ad in the classifieds also with no luck.

Does anybody reading this have one for sale?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

People who have large stashes of VW parts don't advertise every item, obviously. What's I've found effective is to go thru the classified ads. Find the VW junk yards or folks who have pictures of LOTS of parts (old repair shops), etc.

Send them a PM and offer a fair amount of $ for the part to get them to want to go see if they have what you're looking for. I've located several parts this way and most people are friendly and want to help out. Again, offering say $25 dollars or more for that line would help them get up and search to see if they have one.

That vacuum line is worth more than the used distributor.

I have had to source one up before and have sold one. They go for around 40 bucks if you can find one. Some advice I can give you is look for used distributors for sale. Sometimes they will still have the vac line attached and you can offer to buy just the vacuum line. Just remember there is also an adapter that screws into the carb to connect the line you will need that as well.

Thanks for the advice so far, good stuff.

One thing I did not mention is that I have a new Solex carb that does not have provisions for the fitting, so all I really need is the fitting at the vacuum can. I can then use a hose at the top for the carb.

It seems it would be a shame to cut one up that is complete, I guess I need to look for just the lower threaded fitting.

Any one have one of those they would sell?

I've got half of one.... Bought an old carb with a cut one on it.
When I needed one I bought it from Wolfsburg west.... Pretty cheap as well.

Last I checked they did not have any for sale, only the fuel line. Either way Dad hasn't found the left over from his.
