1) Saw a license plate on pest control truck - CNOMICE.
2) Ordered a Bentley manual.
3) I love Oxi-Clean. _________________ The Ghost Ship - 1984 Westfalia 2WD

BTDT.
LOVED IT!
Congratulations on your wonderful successes and return of an old family friend to full function.
Best! |
Old family friend, that's exactly right! I have this memory of riding along in the passenger seat, with a German storybook, reading aloud to Dad. Dad was trying to learn German. So the way he did it is I would read aloud The Bremen Town Musicians, sounding things out, with him correcting and listening (teaching is learning method?). I had no idea what I was actually saying
Just a little bit of Ghostie time this evening, pulled out the folding sofa cushions. Disappointed to see they are not removable covers.... was so looking forward to using Oxi-clean. Cleaned them with the steam cleaner (again) and now they can sit in the sun for a time. _________________ The Ghost Ship - 1984 Westfalia 2WD

That door has a "squeaky" clean look... Welldone! Oh, sorry..I need to demousify my posts. Please keep the pics coming. OUR Westy's name is "the O'possum"...it's a "sleeper" for us in the woods, and I'm memory of all the little furry four footed friends that have ever lived there.. |

Getting that sliding door straight and flat without using filler will be the measure of the man. Measure of the BODY man, that is.
I just love challenges like that! It will take some pretty good skill to put all that extra metal back in tension to pull out the kink on the top.
Anther same color slider door would be the easy way!

Yup... I paid a metal magician who shrunk the metal... nice to have the original door, no repainting an matching the inside to deal with too. _________________ Don't harsh my mellow...

It be a fearsome claw mark, from a Bermuda Triangle seamonster! Aargh!
Probably will not be addressing body work for some time. I may wire brush the wound and put some white Rustoleum or something on it. There's a little rust over the driver side rear fender, but it doesn't seem too deep. I'll put wound repair on the to-do list. _________________ The Ghost Ship - 1984 Westfalia 2WD

OK, need to take off door panel. Looks like someone has been in there in the past. I got a trim removal tool from Harbor Freight, so hopefully I won't screw it up more:

Methinks your door handle is 90 degrees off ~ mine was like that and scraped against the outside panel whenever I opened it. A wiser person than I pointed that out. I unscrewed it, pointed it straight down, and bingo, no more scraping. A whole lot easier to open from the inside now too.

What? the inside door handle should be pointing down?
And, I really like the yellow tent on your rig!
edit: holy cow, there it is in the owner's manual. The handle was on wrong. Thanks! _________________ The Ghost Ship - 1984 Westfalia 2WD

Try it, you'll like it!
And thanks! Its the cotton 3 window from GW, and we are really enjoying it. I removed the roof and scrubbed the top, inside and out, with Simple Green. SO MUCH NICER!! My wife and daughter sleep up there, and they say its a world of difference with the clean zone and 3 window...can't wait to see how the Ghost evolves too. _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

All the panels, everything? My solace is that this colony is at least 3 years old - hantavirus only lives a few days. Still being careful though. |
Are you sure the Hantavirus is only a danger a short time?
Al |
Stuff I've read about hantavirus says it's fresh droppings, urine, etc. Like when you go in to clean the shed after winter and mice are still living there. But I'm fixing my previous statement a little so people don't get the wrong impression. Thanks, it's best to be careful. And who wants to be breathing it anyway, hantavirus or not? _________________ The Ghost Ship - 1984 Westfalia 2WD

Most any water cooled Vanagon is going to need its heater core CLEANED OR REPLACED anyway, after about 10 years, so, just make up your mind, take out the dash and heater box. there is sill some fresh air flows through I think the front sheet metal structural member. so air gun and vacuuming would help there. But heck, they nearly ALL need the heater box taken out. I have cleaned the heater cores with air conditioner unit cleaner. it sure helped performance. I think NEW heater cores are available now. |
Putting heater core on the to-do list. Thanks! _________________ The Ghost Ship - 1984 Westfalia 2WD

Does your rear heater under the bench seat work? Quite often it will leak and cause a mess. Easy to replace (core, valve), and in the PNW would be nice to have the additional heat I'll bet. _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

What timing! I just took out the rear seat. I used my new Bentley VW Repair manual, it was quite helpful although not exactly my setup, but close enough.
It doesn't look like it has leaked. But I don't think I've fired it up yet.

It might be fine at this point, but keep an eye on it after you've started using it.
They are prone to leak, and you won't know until you smell antifreeze, or see a weird fluid leak under the van that is hard to trace! _________________ 1990 Syncro 16" DoppleKabine 2.1 DJ 112i

But now the van has Elwood as a guardian |
Elwood is an excellent mouser, and keeps the garage (where he sleeps at night) mouse-free. In the mornings we find scenes of epic carnage, and all that's left of Mr. Mouse is a smear, and maybe a face or a leg. But outside, it's a big job for a 14-year old purr baby. We have lots of mice. Heck, they start stashing seeds on top of my car's engine while it's parked for the weekend! I'll have to think of a long term solution for Ghostie. _________________ The Ghost Ship - 1984 Westfalia 2WD
