For Bumpers try
House of Ghia Salem Oregon
http://www.house-of-ghia.com/
or
Karmann Ghia Parts and Restoration KGP&R Ventura Ca.
http://www.karmannghia.com/

Between the two they can get you most anything you might need for your Ghia.

wiggle the steering wheel, sometimes they lock pretty hard and have pressure on the switch.

Car was Yellow? (engine compartment hinges)
Not sure 1972 came with alternator?
Has retrofit California EGR valve tapped into manifold pre-heat tube.

Windshield was either removed or replaced at one time. You have the calif. look gasket with no chrome trim.

Engine has been swapped - '71/'72 would be Dual Port, not Single Port engine. Turn your steering wheel hard right to the stop; look in left fender behind suspension beam, you should see brake master cylinder. Or empty space where it was mounted...

You mentioned that you were a first time VW owner, so how do you know seals and the like need to be replaced, is this what the guy who wants to sell you the 2185 engine is telling you? If it was me, I fix my car first before moving on into the engine. Surely I make sure it stops before I make it go.

The amount of oil the spilled onto my driveway after turning it over tells me some seals need to be fixed...Its my first vw eng i have ever touched and or worked on....Brake system is there just didn't know where to find it. The eng he wants to sell me is 700 dollars. i guess what my question was should i just buy that and do away with the single port thats in it that needs work.

A newly rebuilt 2185 engine for $700 seems (at least to me) to fall under that "too good to be true" category, so it probably is.
Why is the guy willing to let it go so cheaply?
I'll assume the reason is not because it runs too good and is too reliable for him. Smile

I'm not trying to be overly negative here, rather just trying to suggest caution if you don't have much air cooled experience.

Is it getting gas to the carb? what condition is the carb/fuel pump?
as far as the new engine, I'd want to see paperwork to back up the sellers claims.
