|
|
My brother and I have been rebuilding our grandfather's champagne edition camper. We are getting down to the final steps. During the engine wire harness install, we found that the engine temp sensor had no home. We did some research and found that it screws into the head near cylinder #3. There is a hole there but way to small for the sensor. We looked around and found the hole for the sensor is near cylinder #2. We did some rewiring and installed the sensor. Is this a possible location? or did we install the heads on the wrong side? Are the heads interchangeable?

The heads are interchangeable I believe and yes, you can just leave it there. The other option would have been to make a hole for it in the original location near #3. _________________ Lead Mechanic: San Diego Air and Space Museum

Just run the sensor in the #2 cylinder. The difference in temperature between #2 and #3 will be minimal. |

And for the record....
When these things were new they came from the factory with different heads and only the 3/4 side had the 10mm x 1.0mm tapped hole for the TSII. There was no tapped hole on the 1/2 side.
The replacement heads made today are from AMC in Spain and they only make the 3/4 side head, so rebuilds using replacment heads will have the TSII location on both sides of the engine.
As Wildthings states above, there should not be any issues using the #2 cylinder location. |
