Does anyone know if there's such a thing as a vintage intercooler?

I've seen pictures of front mounted superchargers that had some fins put on the manifold.

I've also found some picks of custom fabricated cooling ducts.

But that's about it.

Cheers,

As far as I know they were mainly used in planes during the war and so on... but I could be wrong. get a massive one from a P51D and strap it to the roof? Razz

Those fins will do nothing to cool the charge... IMHO, but might keep the body of the charger 'cooler'. The hot gas rushing through the inside would not be changed by a hotter or cooler housing...

I found this...

a home made intercooler out of smaller diameter copper piping. I think this is great and might even try it myself as I am struggling to find an intercooler that will squeeze up under the bug air inlets.

Here is a crazy looking solution...

also... just found these guys over here in the UK...

might be interesting.

It looks like the best option would be a home grown water cooled intercooler. The upside is that you can buy an electric water pump, radiator, etc. from places like Summit Racing.

The bad news is that you'll probably have to cut a few holes to route all the hoses.

could do. sounds like a lot of destruction. marine oil coolers work well. They are copper core and look pretty neat.
