|
|
I went to put my flywheel on last night and thought I did everything right but when I went to torque the flywheel down the crank didn't want to turn. It still turned but it was very difficult. I think it had something to do with the rear main seal. I feel like the rear main seal needs to go back further in to the case because it is hindering the flywheel from moving when it is torqued down. My question is...... How far does the seal go back into the case? When I pull the flywheel back off just a little bit it turns a lot easier. Here are some pictures.

I would be mo suspicious of the end play setting than the seal- That one could stand to be a bit (1/32 ") below the case. _________________ some days I get up and just sit and think. Some days I just sit.

What he said. Did it turn freely w end play set and the flywheel installed and torqued to spec? I set enday when my case was apart, the double checked it after assembly, and again after installing the seal. |

Aftermarket flywheel? Could be the radius on the flywheel snout needs turned down some. I have an aftermarket aluminum case and chromoly flywheel, and had the same issue. Turned down the radius on the flywheel and everything fits fine. |

Obviously the problem is that the rear seal is at the other end of the crankshaft. _________________ It's just advice, do whatever you want with it!

Your seal needs to be a lil further in, just below the case. Doubt that is the issue. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.
