Tracing a short today I discovered this wire w/a round connector under the driver-side rear seat, part of the harness that runs there by the heater tube. Can anybody tell me what it's for?

Not sure how well you can see the color, it's a light gray.

Thanks!

Was for the diagnostic socket, connected to D+ on the voltage regulator, (which you no longer have)

If you have an alternator with a built in voltage regulator, it might be an old wire from what used to be the old voltage regulator, which was mounted on that wall, under the seat.

Yeah, that sounds right. I did remove the old regulator when I first bought the car a year & a half ago, but I'd forgotten about it.

Thanks!
