There is coolant piping around 2/3's of the engine compartment (87 vanagon). I don't know what its called.

Does anyone know if these are being reproduced?

Mine is leaking in 2 spots. At this point, I guess I can cut out the leaking sections & install rubber fuel line there or something.

Thx

Available in steel and stainless steel from most Vanagon vendors.

If it is shot, chances are so are the rest of the engine metal pipes.

The small ones connecting the water pump to the the oil cooler to the thermostat housing are available in stainless from VanAgain.

I bend up brand new ones for less money.
The small pipes are the same size as the power steering hardlines, that will also need replacing at some point.

Thanks for the info. I was able to cut out the damaged section & install a 5" piece of 3/8" fuel line. So far, no leaks. I flushed out the entire system using a garden hose with some duct tape wrapped on the end so it fits tight into the pressure / surge tank. I removed the bleeder plug off the radiator top & let it slowly flush for about 15 min. Right now & have straight water in it. I'm just waiting for my McMaster-Carr shipment to arrive with these stainless head drain bolts before I fill it with G13 & dstl water. I tore up the factory drain plugs last week...

Yeah there's a lot of rust on everything, but so far, none of the other water pipes leak. I plan on replacing all this stuff over time, but for now I'm hoping to fire this thing up next week.

My bad, that is the bleeder loop.
I have about 25 of those taking up space from engine conversions.
You can have one for free if you want to pick it up or pay shipping.

I think it will hold for now - thanks anyway. Also, the inside of the water pipes is clean. Rust is only on the outside where road salt would collect. When I drained the coolant, I was surprised to find that there was G12 type pink coolant inside - no cheap green stuff. This van appears to have been well maintained prior to someone crashing into it (& subsequently getting parked for the last 15 years)

Thanks. I"ve been replacing lines that are accessible. Most of the fuel lines are in good condition. Next week I'm going to install a new pump, filter, & regulator. I was also able to open the bleed screw on the lower line. I'm leak checking the gas tank now with 5 gallons of AvGas 100LL - which I like to use in my projects (100 octane, last for years, & no ethanol or MTBE additives) It does have some lead - but I'm sure the cat is already gone anyway. Another plus is Avgas smells so damn good Cool
I actually ran the engine last week by pouring some avgas into the intake duct & pulling the fuel pump relay. It started no problem. So it this point, I know the oil pressure & ignition is good.

I have an old Halon bottle off an airplane that I will keep handy too.

I want to leave the engine cover off when I test drive this - any problem in doing that?

Seems to me a fire will be much easier to manage if I dont have to remove that lid to spray it....

Too bad you snapped the tip of the injector on the way out.

Now you will be spending some pesos.

It was snapped by the previous owner.

I just picked up a really clean 2.1 core two weeks ago from a guy in Boston who's converting to a TDI. Been robbing parts off it, so Im set on engine parts

I'm having a hard time removing the left side injectors tho - the 10mm bolt is rounded off.

What I need is a 6 point box end.

Im only seeing 12 pt wrenches on the snap-on site

The injector is the least of this vans issues.
Keep your fingers crossed that driveline parts are intact.
