Hey Guys,
I know we have a seat sticky but this is a tad different request.
In helping my niece recently we did a junkyard scrounge for her Toyota, I peeped out some seats of different type cars there.
Does anyone have a good suggestion for hi back bucket seats, as to what would be a good donor vehicle (make/mod/year) that's a non vw donor?)
I'd prob get a set of the SCAT seat adaptors for the THING if I did this.
I've heard guys have used mitsubushi eclipse, ford explorer, etc. just never got the year or make /model. (it would help in searching for a good donor)
I also chatted with Oasis about getting a pair of hibacks from TTS but this is my plan "B".
Hey if you have non Thing seats (non VW seats that is) let me know
what make/mod/year the donor was Please!
Thank you in advance!

I just put a pair of Miata seats in a '69 Beetle. I like them quite a lot. I paid $80 for the pair. I've seen them in leather. Those might be better for a Thing.

Thanks!

I friend used mid 90s VW Golf front seats including salvaging the rear seat fabric to cover the things rears to match. Great looking. I saw a pair of 80s cloth Subaru Loyale seats in a 71 bug. Those were great. the guy took the entire seat mount and bolted to the pan. |

Hey Guys,
Thanks for the suggestions, and Thanks GuppySoup!
Make/mod/year is what I'm looking for and Pics too, man you guys are awesome!
Just to restate, the local junkyard i'm dealing with gives the option to enter
what vehicle you're looking for to help find it.
I've not tryed to measure anything yet, I do have a rollbar that could interfere, but yeah, you guys are giving me good ideas, heck this could help others too, so if you have non Thing seats and can remeber the make/mod/year please post!
Honestly, since we were working on a Toyota Avalon (which started the junkyard trip, those seats were nice, and leather too!

Last night, acquired six HMMWV seats (new in box) that will fit a Thing, a buggy or a rail. Just have to make the minor attachments on bottom Super heavy duty covers. These seats are made to cushion the driver against severe shocks like IED or land mine blasts, so they would work well if you go off-road.
Will use two and sell the other four. This was a fall into it lucky thing that happened.
Pics here: in album: Don't know how to post them in the posts, if someone can help, thanks!

Those are some cool seats. Nice resource. Thanks post these!! Check out this deal for 9 of them for $50;; Yowza!!!
http://ccsurplus.com/content/humvee-seats
Here is the blurb on the benefits of these seats:
More than 50,000 new HMMWV (M1152) have been equipped with seats that incorporate a submersible MitiGator™ layer in the commanders seat to mitigate blast forces encountered when hit by a land mine or IED. The seat was so well received that 500 units that incorporated competitors cushions were refused by the Army until the seats were replaced with cushions that use The MitiGator™. Blast testing was carried out at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. Test results are classified. In May of 2006 the first 500 vehicles were fielded in Iraq.
The Hi-Impact™ HMMWV Seat System dissipates much of the energy of IED & mine blasts as well as shocks / vibrations / impacts and prevents that energy from passing through to the human body, thus reducing the level of injury sustained. Musculoskeletal injuries are an enduring problem for the military.
Or build your own seats with these bare frames....

If you have never designed or built seats, you will get an education. I started 10 years ago and boy did I learn quick! My back taught me a lot, lol, followed by my pocketbook. _________________ L'audace! L'audace! Toujours l'audace! |

I can't remember if I put mine in the seat swap section, but mine came with porsche 944 seats. The sliders are doubled up, as in they used the stock thing sliders, and welded the 944 sliders to them. This is VERY nice for me being 6'6". I have plenty of room, and more for myself.

Possibly both made by same company, recaro maybe? I do believe the seats in the 911 from the 80's up into the early 90's are also the same. |

|
|
hey Guys,
my old seat thread update;
i've not been able to do much lately on this seat idea.
I was talking to the wife about this again (probably booring the crap out of her!) as I do have a set of 71 Mustang seats that I can get a Tan/Saddle color seat upholstery for and I'd have to recover them myself, I did the seats in my 66 Fastback so I think I could do this again.
Anyways, She said, "if you want the hi back seats from the THING shop, let me know, that'd be your Christmas present".
I was quite a bit shocked there, she always suprises me like that!
I wanted to know if anyone has those THING shop hi back Seats;
Do they Recline?
Any fitment problems with a roll bar? My current seats are rather tight in there with the roll bar and the drivers seat top right edge folds over/back and wont stay upright, which makes me lean to the right rear when driving and makes my back hurt.
( I think I did this by leaning up and back over the seat digging in the back seat for somthing and I felt it go POP).
I'd also like the seats to lean back a bit verses "driving the Thing like a bus" which makes my back ache as well.
(I know waaah but it's getting to the point I dont want to drive it anymore so
need to fix this!)
Just thought I'd ask the group, I know a few of yall have these seats.
Pm me if you wish.
Thanks Folks!
