Well I finally got a pair of tan seats, believe they were from a bmw but not sure the year.
These are non eletcric.
So if I order the scat seat adapters, are they adjustable somehow
To fit diff seat frames or what?
Not sure there.
I'll try to clean up these seats and post a pic.

here's a few photos of the seats, not sure if they fit physically in the Thing's seat area yet (havent been able to ballpark test)
or if a scat seat track will adapt to them.
The seat's frames are off center either left or right a bit, these may not work..
anyone have any suggestions or experience here?
I believe the seat belts are 1997/1998 and supposedly came from a BMW.

Scat is not a slide in to your rails, they bolt in to your track so you will be drilling holes. I have made mounts by using stock lower seat frames so I have something that will slide into the original seat tracks. Then adapt the seats to these stock frames. This will also give you two ways to slide the seats. Find some 71-72 Bug seats to use so you keep the Thing seats if you want to go back. |

Hey Ron,
Thanks for the info, that is what I was looking for. I swear I thought I read somewhere those scat frames slid into the orginal tracks.
I dont want to drill any holes..
Ok, I do have a set of THING seat frames that are very rusty/ratty but I believe the frame bottoms are good enough i could clean them up.
would it be worth the trouble to make my own adaptors?
or
are these THING seat frames "gold" meaning no matter how ratty they may can be saved??
I had removed the seat covers to take photos for TTS but they evidently didnt want them for cores as they never responded to my emails after calling them and sending them photos on 2 different occasions.
I do like these "new seats" that I found but I can return them, if needed.
Finding beetle hi backs locally has been difficult, the cheap ones i've found would require a recover and the re-do kits arent cheap either. The Wife was going to get me some TTS seats but after about 3 to 4 months of silence after twice contacting them I gave up for now.
Thanks for yall's help/suggestions, this is GOOD info
(you know it's bad when you google for info and find your own posts! LOL)
none of this is a dire emergency anyways, I really wanted somthing seat wise that would recline as I seem to keep hunching over the steering wheel when I drive for long periods, figuring some recline may help that.
Thanks again yall, and hope to see yall soon in OHIO!

They are the Thing seat frames, cut modified, welded back together, then welded to the stock Neon seats.
The width of the Neon seat track was almost exactly the same as the Thing. When I replaced the pans a few years ago I used Brazilian bug seat tracks. The change the angle the seat leans back on and my wife was never happy with it. So, I changed the angle of the seat bottom to make her more comfortable. Cut a good inch and a half out of the front of it and welded it back together. Tacked the seat in, played with it, and made her drive it for a good half an hour before I finish welded it. Then just copied the same thing for the other side. _________________ My 71 Ghia Been in my family since 1980

hey swhitcomb,
Thank you for the photos! nice job there too.
It makes me wonder tho, with the seats that I currently have (with those offset seat frames) may not work here but I can still try.
I thought I'd (using the old stock Thing frames i have) if I made a frame adaptor and weld that to the frame and bolt the seats to that.
It's going to take a lot of measuring and test fitting to be sure. But seeing what you did made it a bit clearer of what's invoved.
Thanks again for the pictures!

Glad the pics were useful. I wasn't sure how I'd do it when I started. I was considering using the stock dodge seat slider. However, the way I did it didn't ruin anything that can't easily be undone one day. Once I slid the stock seat out and the bottom of the Neon seat track was almost exactly the same width it made it a really easy job. Now I just need to clean up and paint the track and seat frame. We were taking the car on a cruise to the drive in theater that night and she wanted to be comfortable. I bought the seats over a month ago and had been busy working on replacing metal in my Super every weekend.
