I'm testing a tach and would like to know the wire orientation. (+12) (1) (-) So +12 goes to the 12volt supply, 1 goes to the same side as the points lead on the coil and - goes to ground. Does that all seem correct.

Exactly! I would try to pick up the wire to the coil where ever it is up front as it is switched through the ignition for the +12 (On a VW it's the bottom of the 1st 2 fuses)(Looks like it also on the first 2 fuses on the Porsche's). The 1 wire is the signal and they are calling it 1 because the coil is marked 1 where it goes. - would have to be ground. http://www.pelicanparts.com/911/911_parts/Electrical/911_electrical_1965.jpg
