Hi everyone! I thought I would finally start a build thread after having my 58 coupe since Nov/08. I have affectionately named her Lola. She was purchased from Mike at HOG in November, and my wife and I trailered her back from Salem Oregon to Calgary Alberta Canada. The project will likely be a slow one. I am hoping that it will be no more than two-three years. I have high hopes for her. Anyway enjoy the pics. Very Happy

Todd

Looks good Todd...do you have the car's birth certificate yet? Did the car come as a shell or do you have a lot of parts with it?

That Ghia looks way too familiar. Im wondering if that is the lowlight that I brought back from Montana a few years back. In the pics its hard to tell, but is there some body damage to the nose? Where the rib goes down the front of the nose, does it blend into the nose (via bondo?). Just curious.

Excellent! Another Ghia in Calgary Very Happy Howdy Todd and Lola
Looks like a great project. I know a local who I think has given up on a lowlight vert project. If you're in need of parts i can put you in contact with him, just let me know
Good luck with the build.

Who what? I wouldn't mind knowing what's going on with that one as well, get the info Todd and then we can share stories when I bring the '57 "parts car" home this weekend. Very Happy

Shane, where is your 57 coming from? could be the same car. Last time I spoke to her they were seriously looking at skidding the ghia project and doing another 356. I'll see what I can find out tomorrow and let you guys know. Guess I'm guilty of not checking out the local pages lately Embarassed

We're probably talking about the same car, it's a May '57 coupe though, and I think it's an early 912 they have on the go right now.

Todd, all I'm getting is the shell but I know the owner was collecting parts a couple years ago, still need to find out what happened to the extras but I'll let you know.

I've never seen it but I'm almost positive she said it was a vert. They have done a couple dub's (beetles and buses) and one or two 356's. very nice stuff.

Thanks for all the words of encouragement guys. Yes John, I have the birth certificate (see attached). I bought just the shell and pan and also bought some parts from Mike when I picked up the car. I will post pics of some of the goodies I have managed to collect. This is definitely the more expensive way to do it (piece by piece), but the hunt is kinda fun and every part seems to have a story.

The car seems to be all accident free. I guess we will see once its naked what the real deal is. I am hoping that will be soon. The story that has been pasted on to me is that it was a car for the Washington area, and the PO used it to drive around a vineyard with a torch to keep the grapes from freezing. One of the rear windows was removed in order for the torch to stick out. After that it was repainted the red it is now, never put back together, and sat in a barn for 25 years before Mike rescued it. If there is any more info about this car I would certainly love to have it.

That makes your Ghia about a couple of weeks older than mine (3rd April).

Is it going to be a stock or semi-stock resto?

Hey John, dose this mean we are related? Very Happy

I am planning a resto-mod, euro-cal, sleeper, driver, at the moment. I am leaving the 58 pan alone (saving), and the plan is to get a S2 chassis done by MEDNEOLA SIGNATURE MOTORS combining another 58 pan with the rear IRS system of a 71 ghia donor I have.
